Slide 7
Notes:

This interactive slide introduces the concept that dehydration can cause thirst,
fatigue, and headaches. Be sure students also know that feeling hungry can
sometimes mean they are dehydrated, so when they feel hungry, they should
always drink water first.

Students fill in the blanks with ways to hydrate, such as drinking many types
of liquids or eating juicy foods. Emphasize that drinking sugary drinks are not
as good as drinking water, because our bodies don’t need lots of sugar.

Notes:

This interactive slide helps students set a health goal based on the
information from the presentation.

To reinforce the goal, read aloud the poem and then have students read it
aloud with you. Then form small groups and assign each to answer one of the
following that you write on the board:
 How water helps us (helps knees and elbows bend; helps regulate body
temperature; protects backbone; gets rid of waste)
 How we lose water (when we breathe; when it’s hot out; when we’re
active; when we go to the bathroom)
 How we can hydrate (drink water; eat juicy foods, such as melon, celery,
tomatoes, oranges, soup)

Ask groups to report their findings and write them under the appropriate
categories on the board.
