The Institute of Quantitative Genetics and Genomics of Plants in the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences at Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf invites applications for the post of Scientific employee in representation (50 %; TV-L EG 13) available from now on. The position is initially limited until 31.08.2018 with the possibility of extension. The position is located at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research in Cologne and after the construction of the Centre for Synthetic Life Sciences, at the campus of the Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf. The work of the newly founded Institute for Quantitative Genetics and Genomics of Plants aims to identify the causes of natural phenotypic variation of crop plants on a molecular level, in order to attain the ultimate goal of our work – the prediction of phenotypic performance under various environmental conditions. This requires combined efforts on creating novel plant material, exploiting the possibilities of *omics technologies, and developing innovative biostatistical procedures. Your tasks • Biometrical analysis of larger scale molecular marker data sets to identify recombination breakpoints in the barley genome • Plan, perform, and analyze field and greenhouse trials to assess agronomically relevant traits • Apply quantitative genetic methods such as linkage analysis and genomic selection to study the inheritance of the collected phenotypic traits • Prepare scientific publications • Prepare a dissertation Our requirements: • M.Sc. in biology, agricultural sciences or related disciplines • Excellent knowledge of genetics and/or breeding • Proficiency in R programming and biostatistics is highly advantageous • Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written) • Interest in applied science • High motivation, ability to work independently, team spirit The salary will be, depending on the personal qualification of the applicant, up to pay grade TV-L EG 13.
