Gmail - FW: Bridgeport gravity data. 1/19/15, 9:32 PM John Louie <[email protected]> FW: Bridgeport gravity data. Chad Carlson <[email protected]> To: John Louie <[email protected]> Wed, Jan 7, 2015 at 11:18 AM Dr. Louie, Attached are the files from Rick's and my gravity measurement collection around the Bridgeport area (Summer 2012). I am will have a copy of these files archived, should something happen to them. The "station_location_map" (pdf) will give you a general idea of where we sampled, and includes one day that I was not in the field with Rick, for your course logistics. I would like to be a part of the processing of this data when the time comes, for my purpose of gaining a better understanding of gravity data. I will be planning to go to Menlo Park, in the not too distant future, to try my hand at reducing the data utilizing their software. I would like to get together with you and go over what we have been given by Rick, when you have time. I also plan on attending your first course meeting, along with other meetings periodically, if that is OK. Please let me know the time and place of your first class, and/or feel free to include me in course emails. Respectfully, Chad Carlson Date: Wed, 7 Jan 2015 07:58:39 -0800 Subject: Re: Bridgeport gravity data. From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Chad-The following files are attached... bodie_2012_fieldnotes.pdf = Scanned field notes location_map.jpg = Station location map three_days_in_one_excel_file.xlsx = All raw data, no editing, coordinates from GPS post-processing Bodie.tpo = Tracks and stations (new and old) on USGS topo maps. Requires Topo! and all topographic data. The following three files are from my GPS post processing. These files are used in our gravity data reduction software, so they won't be of much use to you in this format without the software. I'm sending them to you just for completeness. BODIE060712.inp = Raw data, day 3, GPS post processed BODIE060612.inp = Raw data, day 2, GPS post-processed BODIE_060512.inp = Raw data, day 1, GPS post-processed The important channels in *.inp are: latitude degrees, latitude minutes, longitude degrees, longitude minutes, elevation, station name, date of reading, GPS time, meter reading, time of reading, inner zone terrain correction. If it would be helpful, consider driving over the mountains to Menlo Park and reducing the data yourself. Might be instructive. If not, no need to get them to me. Thank you for hunting down the data. I am having difficulties with the location file in the ".map" format, but I can put something together with the lat/long info on the excel sheet. Get the anomalies to me when you can, no rush. In the meantime, I intend to advance my understanding and use of gravity data, and will see if John can help me to process the anomalies myself. While not enrolled in John's class, I plan to spend some time involved with it. Thank you again for taking the time back in 2012 and allowing me the opportunity to learn from you. Talk to you soon. The Excel file provides all of our 2012 data (three days) concatenated into one file. I think you will recognize the latitude, longitude, and station ID columns. The JPG is a quick-and-dirty map of station locations. Notes: Station 12BOD001 is the base station in Bridgeport and appears multiple times. Ignore them. Station 12BOD010 is repeated once. The second one should be renamed 12BOD011. Station 12BOD052 is repeated once. As I recall, we screwed up the first reading and made a second at the same location. Delete the first 12BOD052. https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/?ui=2&ik=6cde8c4c21&view=pt&search=inbox&msg=14ac5d56a3784702&siml=14ac5d56a3784702 Page 2 of 5 Gmail - FW: Bridgeport gravity data. 1/19/15, 9:32 PM This file includes all of our work, so you now have the entire database. These data need to be run through our gravity reduction software in order to compute anomalies (free air, Bouguer, isostatic). I can do that later, okay? Rick Richard J. I double-checked my old emails and there was nothing attached to any of our communications. There was nothing entered in any of my old notebooks either (guessing everything was entered in a notebook of yours). I will put something together for John, roads we accessed, etc., in the interim while you search. R, Chad Date: Tue, 6 Jan 2015 08:41:44 -0800 Subject: Re: Bridgeport gravity data. From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Hi Chad-I'm not ignoring you, rather I'm having trouble locating the data. I'm in some sort of Twilight Zone. Even our 2012 email communications are gone from my mail server. Have I sent you any files since the fieldwork? Do you have copies of field notes, digital or otherwise? Any other clues? I'm not usually so disorganized. I've moved through two computer transitions sine the fieldwork, so maybe that's the problem. I'm at the doctor's office now. Will continue my search later today. More later. Cheers, Rick Richard J. John was asking about our gravity collection locations and if I could put together the roads/paths we took. While I could draw from memory, if you could send me the Bridgeport data, I could plot the collection locations for John. Additionally, I wouldn't mind having a file of the data saved on a drive, should something happen to the files I will forward on to John. Let me know how you would like to proceed.
