What is the York Rite of Freemasonry?
The Blue Lodges, together with the Royal Arch Chapters, the Councils of
Royal and Select Masters, and the Commanderies of the Knights Templar constitute the YORK RITE OF FREEMASONRY. “Further Light” and the long-lost Master’s word may be found by completing all Degrees and Orders of the York Rite.
There are various Masonic related organizations for the whole family, such
as the Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, Shriners, Social Order of the Beauceants,
Eastern Star, Daughters of the Nile, the Orders of Knights of Saint Andrew, DeMolay Boys, Rainbow Girls and a multitude of other Masonic Organizations,
which expand on these teachings of brotherly love, relief and truth.
Together, they touch many lives through community service or financial
contributions to approved 501 (c) 3, et. al. organizations such as the Masonic
Charities of Hawaii, the K.T. Foundation of Hawaii, the Shriners Hospital for Children Honolulu, the Royal Arch Research Assistance, the Cryptic Mason Medical
Research Foundation, the Knights Templar Eye Foundation and others.
The York Rite Legend, its esoteric secrets and Constitution have been the
predominant factor in Freemasonry from the year 926 A.D. down through the
years when the first Speculative Grand Lodge was formed in England in 1717
with its Charter largely based on the York Rite Charter, when it expanded across
the continent of Europe and to the four corners of the earth. Therefore, every
Grand Lodge of today is a lineal descendant of the 926 A.D. York Rite Assembly
of Masons. Its members include men from all walks of life, including monarchs,
presidents, military, business and community leaders. The Grand York Rite Bodies of Hawaii consist of the Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons, the Grand
Council of Cryptic Masons, the Grand Commandery of Knights Templar and its
subordinate York Rite Bodies.
The Kalakaua Templar Foundation of Hawaii is a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt charity. Its Vision is to build in a Private / Public Partnership, a “Young Adult Leadership & Community Center” with programs that will inspire our Youth in Hawai’i on their journey to become well educated, articulate, responsible and passionate leaders through scholarships and leadership programs. Other programs
at the Center will focus on inter-generational Day-Care services for the Intellectually/Developmentally Disabled (I/DD), Wounded Warriors, and our Kapuna
(Elderly), thereby stimulating “Service above Self”. The Foundation Hopes to
strengthen its support for the Knights Templar Eye Foundation, the Royal Arch
Research Association (RARA), the Cryptic Masons Medical Research Foundation
(CMMRF), the Shriners Hospital for Children, the Masonic Charities, as well as
other worthy community organizations and events or scholars

Our Charter
The first Commandery was chartered on September 20, 1871.
S.K. King David Kalakaua served as its Commander 1978-79.
The Grand Commandery of Knights Templar of Hawaii was
chartered on August 14, 2012 by the Grand Encampment of
the Knights Templar.
During the 65 Triennium, Sir Knight William Howard Koon,
II, Most Eminent Grand Master of the Grand Encampment of
Knights Templar and Sir Knight Gerhart W. Walch, Commander of the Honolulu Commandery signed on behalf of all
Knights Templar in Hawaii the Dispensation, at a table in front
of the Altar upon which the historic George Washington Bible
had been opened. This momentous ceremony was witnessed by
all voting delegates from around the world, who unanimously
gave their approval of granting this Charter.
The three constituent Commanderies of the Grand Commandery of Hawaii were: Honolulu Commandery No.1, Hilo Commandery No. 2, and Kalakaua Commandery No. 2, with a combined membership of 300 Sir Knights in good standing.

The Grand Chapter of Royal Arch Masons of Hawaii was
constituted and chartered by the General Grand Chapter of
Royal Arch Masons International on January 6, 1977, at the
Masonic Temple in Honolulu.

The five constituent Chapters of the Grand Chapter with a
combined membership of 724 in good standing were the
Honolulu No. 1, Kalakaua No. 2, Kamehameha Chapter N0. 3,
Duke Kahanamoku No. 4 and the Kona Chapter No. 5.
It was the year of our Lord 1857, when the first Charter was
granted. King Kamehameha IV and John Owen Dominis, consort of Queen Liliuokalani, were the very first candidates exalted. King David Kalakau, who ascended to Commander of the
Honolulu Commandery No. 1 Knights Templar in 1878, was
exalted and served as High Priest in 1883.

Our Charter
The Grand Council of Cryptic Masons of Hawaii was constituted and chartered by the General Grand Council of Cryptic Masons International on January 9, 1981, at the Masonic Temple in
Honolulu.
The three constituent Councils of the Grand Council were: Honolulu Council No.1, Hilo Council No. 2, and Kalakaua Council
No. 3, with a combined 700 members in good standing.
This historic ceremony was under the direction of the Most Puissant General Grand Master John Harris Watts of the General
Grand Council of Cryptic Masons International.
The Charter Grand Illustrious Master was John Johnston.
