Connection
for the week of December 7, 2014

BLANK PAGE
During the holiday season families with limited means stretch every dollar,
even counting pennies, to provide food and shelter for their children. They
look to cut any costs that they can. More and more often families try to
stretch their dollars by leaving their babies in a dirty diaper longer leading
to severe diaper rash and other medical conditions. Diapers and wipes are
such a necessity for the health and well-being of a baby. No baby should
have to sit in a dirty diaper all day. That’s why the Texas Diaper Bank is
here, to help keep babies healthy.
This holiday season, join us as we “count our pennies” and collect
1 million pennies by December 19th to help keep babies healthy!
Why pennies? It’s very simple; a little bit can go a long way!





10 pennies = 1 diaper
100 pennies = 1 package of wipes
250 pennies = 1 weeks’ worth of diapers
1,000 pennies = 1 bottle of specialized baby formula
10,000 pennies = Provides a baby with diapers, wipes, and
formula for a month
Imagine what 1,000,000 pennies can do!
Together we can “change” thousands of babies’ lives,
one penny at a time.
For more information on how you can participate contact us at
[email protected] or 210-731-8118 ext. 303.

Parents,
Confirmation 2015 is coming!
Credo is defined as "a statement of the beliefs that guide a
person's actions.” That is our focus and theme for confirmation. We understand that this is an important
part in the life of a young disciple of Jesus. Our 12 week program is designed to help your student grow in
their relationship with the Lord by clearly explaining Methodism in a tangible way, and to empower your
students to "Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks him/her to give the reason for
the hope that he/she has.” (1 Peter 3:15)
The cost is $20. In addition to 12 weeks of learning about his/her heritage as a disciple of Jesus Christ,
your student will receive all the class materials, a new Study Bible that is appropriate for their age level,
and a mentor to personally guide them throughout the course and a mission oriented service project.
Come by the Sign Up table in the Gathering Place for more information or call MJ (757) 232-6246.
Tweens Sunday School (5th through 6th Grade):

WUMC Day School
Neighbors Helping Neighbors
December Mission Focus
A message from Linda Wilcoxen
River Laurence is 2 ½ years old and attends Windcrest Day School. He has recently
been diagnosed with stage 4 Neuroblastoma. The tumor begins in the abdominal area
and stretches to the hip and is roughly the size of a basketball. The news came as a
great shock to his family. River has already begun chemo treatment in efforts to
reduce the size of the tumor for an operation to have it removed. He and his family
need love and support from all. Please consider helping this little guy and his family
with medical expenses. If you would like to write a check, please make check out to
Joscelyn & Matthew Laurence.
WUMC will be hosting a Blood Drive on Sunday, December 21st, from 9 am - 1pm for
River. When donating please specify its for River Laurence at Children’s Methodist Hospital. Please Donate.
If you who would like to follow Rivers journey on Facebook: There and back again Rivers journey

The homeless needing sleeping bags and blankets
The veteran needing transportation to the VA Hospital
The family passing through town with no food or money, grateful for the peanut butter and jelly provided through our church
The diabetic man in need of insulin
The woman with extremely high blood pressure, no money to see a doctor
The family with no electricity or water, on the verge of eviction
The lonely man just wanting a meal, cup of coffee and Holy Communion
The neighbor you see most days walking along Walzem Rd. hungry and homeless
We thank you for your support. We offer hope and love to all that visit our church during Neighbors Helping Neighbors.

CHRISTMAS AT
NEIGHBORS HELPING NEIGHBORS
In December WDSCDC children will host their own market days on
December 18th & 19th. They will each have the opportunity to go
Christmas shopping for their parents. Each item will cost $1.00. The
school is in need of items to sell, so I am reaching out to our WDSCDC
families and WUMC families to donate items for the children to purchase. Anything donated must be new and unused.
Some suggested items are socks, ties, lotions, costume jewelry, travel mugs, cosmetic bags, nail polish, t-shirts, note
cards/pads, candy dishes, decorative items, candy, Christmas tree ornaments, soup mugs, potpourri, candles, oven
mitts, dish towels, scarves, books etc. We are also in need of donations of gift wrap, bows and ribbons. Please turn in
any items to the school office no later than December 17th.
The school is also in need of working digital cameras and boom box CD players. If you can help with any of these things,
it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support!
We are preparing for our annual Christmas party on Thursday, Dec. 11, 8-12 pm and ask your continued
support of this ministry as you have done many times in the past.
Our Christmas party gives us another opportunity to give to those in need in the way of a pancake breakfast,
toys for the children, Christmas coffee mugs filled with hot cocoa mix and a candy cane for the adults as well
as other gift items. In addition, we greatly appreciate your cookies and candies which will be served at the
pancake breakfast. We will accept clothing items for this event (gently used, please) and household items.
The last few years we have been richly blessed by your donations. Thank you for your generosity. Please
bring your items to the church office or call Francyne Underwood at 210-651-5666 if you need to make
special arrangements to get your items to us.
With much gratitude,
