Lyndon B. Johnson Middle School Class Hours
LBJ M.S. class hours are from 7:30 A.M. to 2:58 P.M. daily. Students must remain in the
designated area until the bell rings at 7:25 a.m. (6th & 7th grade in the cafeteria and 8th grade in
the gym). At 2:58 p.m. students must report to the designated parental pickup area (west side
zone).
Las horas de clase de LBJ M.S. son de 7:30 a.m. a 2:58 todos los días. Los estudiante deben de
permanecer en el area designada hasta que la campana suene a las 7:25 a.m. (6th y 7th grado
deben permanecer en la cafeteria y los de 8th grado en el gimnasio). A las 2:58 p.m. los
estudiantes deben de permanecer en el area designado para que los padres los levanten (el oeste
de la escuela).
Section 25.092 (Senate Bill I) of the Texas Education Code states in part: A student may not
be given credit for a class unless the student is in attendance for at least 90% of the days the
class is offered. The bill makes no distinction between excused and unexcused absences.
Consequences: Failure of school year; MUST attend summer school for promotion.

Student must attend school 90% of school days to pass to the next grade level. 90% attendance
is mandatory regardless of whether absences are excused or unexcused.

Leaving During the School Day
Anyone who reports to the front office to pick up a student during the school day will be
asked for picture identification and must be listed on the Emergency Card in order to be
allowed to pick up the student. Students who are signed out early during the school day and do
not return a medical excuse to Attendance Office will be referred to the Attendance Liaison on
the 3rd absence.
Cualquier persona que se reporte a la oficina a recoger un estudiante durante el día de clases,
tendra que mostrar identificación con foto. La persona tiene que ser una de las personas que
están en la lista de personas de contacto de emergencia en la tarjeta del estudiante para poder

Pick up and Drop off Designated Areas
Students should be dropped off and picked up at the designated area on the west side behind the
cafeteria only. The front parking lot is only for staff parking and visitors. Exceptions will be
made for students on wheelchair, crutches, and students of parents who will remain on campus
all day.

STRIVING FOR SAFETY INITIATIVE
Objective: To increase student safety by reducing or eliminating running and horse-playing in
the hallways, especially during passing periods and coming back from lunch.
Persons Implementing: Security Guards, Teachers, Support Staff, Administrators
Persons Monitoring: Assistant Principals, Principal
10 Minute Rule: No students will be allowed in the hallway with a pass 10 minutes after the
tardy bell rings, and 10 minutes before the end of the period unless it’s an emergency. With
everyone’s cooperation and support, this rule will become a part of our culture at Lyndon B.
Johnson Middle School. All students once allowed to go to the restroom or any place on campus
with the teacher’s permission should have a pass with the teacher’s signature, destination, time,
and date.

Esfuerzos Por La Iniciativa De Seguridad
Objetivo: Aumentar la seguridad de los estudiantes mediante la reducción o eliminación de
corriendo y jugando toscos en los pasillos, sobre todo durante los periodos de transición y
regresando a clase de la cafeteria.

 Dress Code Policy
Students shall adhere to the following uniform policy at all times while on campus. Students
will wear district-approved school uniform shirts with the school’s logo that will be sold at the
school campus:
6th Grade: Light Grey
7th Grade: Charcoal Grey
8th Grade: Black












The uniform policy is mandatory: students must wear the required uniform. If the school
administration determines that the student’s grooming violates the uniform policy, the
student will be subject to disciplinary action.
Students must wear the appropriate size shirt. Oversize shirts will not be allowed.
Pants: blue jeans, black jeans or khaki pants are allowed. Denim shorts to the knee are
also allowed, but they must be blue, black or khaki. Capri pants that meet the same color
criteria are also allowed. Gym shorts and warm-up are not allowed. Gym shorts and
warm-ups may only be used during PE. (No writings or designs of any kind allowed)
Clothing that is torn, too baggy or more than 2 sizes too large will not be allowed.
Pants/trousers and shorts must be worn to the waist.
Uniform shirts will be tucked inside jeans, Capri pants, shorts or skirts unless the shirt is
no longer than the wrist length when arms are held down at the side.
Uniform shirts must cover the midriff area. Students are not to roll up, knot, or alter
shirts.
Students will wear appropriate undergarments which should not be visible.
Long overcoats, bandanas, head gear (hats/caps etc.) and sunglasses are prohibited.
Earrings or studs for boys are prohibited. Body piercing or body clips are prohibited.
Jackets, windbreakers, coats and sweaters are permitted. (hooded jackets are not
permitted) When worn inside the building, outer garments will be unzipped or
unbuttoned so that the uniform is visible.
District policy on footwear will be followed: shoes with metal taps or noisemaking
devices are prohibited. Flip-flop sandals or any other footwear deemed unsafe will
not be allowed.
Hair tails on boys, shaved hair, shaved hair designs, letters and numbers are
prohibited. Boys’ hair shall not extend beyond the bottom of the shirt collar.
Administrators will determine if hair color or style is disruptive or distracting to the
learning environment.
Sideburns will not extend beyond the bottom of the earlobe. Mustaches shall be neatly
trimmed. Beards are not permitted. Hair must be clean and neatly combed. Boys’ hair
shall not extend beyond the bottom of the collar. Spiky hairstyles, including mohawks,
hair tails, shaved designs, letters and numbers are prohibited. Only “natural” hair
colors are permitted (black, brown, blonde, and some reddish tones are considered
natural hair color. Pink, purple, green, and some hues of red, etc are not considered
natural hair colors and will not be allowed. Administrator will determine if hair color is
disruptive or distracting to the learning environment. Sideburns shall not extend beyond
the bottom of the earlobe. Mustaches shall be neatly trimmed. Beards are not permitted

• La póliza de uniforme es obligatoria: los alumnos deben vestir el uniforme requerido. Si la administración de la
escuela determina que el aseo del estudiante viola la políza de uniformes, el estudiante será sujeto a acción
disciplinaria.
• Los estudiantes deben vestirse con la camiseta del tamaño adecuado. Camisas de gran tamaño no se le permitirá.
• Sólamente se permiten pantalones de mezclila azules que quedan bien (no muy sueltos) y shorts de mezclilla
azules que llegan hasta la rodilla. Las niñas pueden usar pantalones de mezclilla azul Capri o faldas de mezclilla
azul que llegan hasta la rodilla. Pantalones, shorts, y faldas deben ser usados en la cintura. No se permiten
pantalones demaciado sueltos / pantalones estilo carpintero. Pantalones “de moda” que están rotos o con diseños se
permiten solo si usan mallones dejo del panatalon. No se permite cualquier ropa que sea para deportes.
El cabello debe estar limpio y peinado. El cabello de los ninos no debe de extender mas del cuello de la camisa. No
se acceptara el cabello con disenos, el cabello levantando en forma de picos, o razurado de los lados con solo el
cabello en el centro. El cabello debe ser de colores naturals. Los colores por ejemplo rosa, morado, verde, o culquier
color estravagante no sera permitido. La administracion va determiner si el color es una distraccion en el salon. El
bigote de estar limpio la barba no sera permitida.
• Camisas de uniformes deben estar metidas en la cintura de los pantalones/shorts/faldas a menos que la camisa no
es superior a la longitud de la muñeca cuando los brazos están extendidos hacia abajo a un lado.
• Las camisas del uniforme deben cubrir el area del estómago. Los estudiantes no deben enrollar, anudar, o alterar
las camisas.
• Los alumnos deben usar ropa interior adecuada que no debe ser visible.
• Abrigos largos, pañuelos, equipo de cabeza (sombreros / gorras, etc) y gafas de sol están prohibidas.
• Pendientes o relieves para niños están prohibidos. Clips de perforaciones en el cuerpo o perforaciones visibles de
el cuerpo o cara están prohibidos.
• Chaquetas, abrigos y suéteres con cierre si están permitidos. Cuando se usa el interior del edificio, ropa exterior se
descomprimirán o desabrochará para que sea visible el uniforme. (No se permitirán chaquetas o sudaderas con
gorra)
• Política de Distrito en el calzado se seguirán: zapatos con toques de metal o de dispositivos de hacer ruido están
prohibidos. sandalias flip-flop o cualquier otro tipo de calzado que se considera inseguro no se permitirá.
• Colas de pelo en los niños, diseños de pelo afeitado, letras y números están prohibidos. Cabello de los niños
no se extenderá más allá de la parte inferior del cuello de la camisa. Los administradores determinarán si el color
del pelo o el estilo es molesto o le distrae al ambiente de aprendizaje.
Las patillas no se extenderán más allá de la parte inferior del lóbulo de la oreja. Bigotes deben de ser bien
recortados. Las barbas no se permiten.

Cell Phone/Electronics Policy
Cell phones or electronic devices should not be used throughout the school day. Devices will be
confiscated and turned into the appropriate office administrator. Cell phones MUST be
maintained in the OFF position during school hours. Use of cell phones in restrooms, during
testing, or during the instructional day is prohibited. No earphones allowed during school day.


1st Offense: Devices will be confiscated until the end of the day with a fee of $10.
2nd Offense: Device will be confiscated until parent picks it up at the end of the day
and a $15 fee will be charged.
If the device continues to be confiscated each time the parent will have to pick up the device
and a $15 fine will apply
Confiscated items may be picked up in the front office only by parents between 3:15 and
5:00 P.M.

Profanity/Bullying Policy
The use of vulgar or profane language is strictly prohibited. Texas Education Code Section
37.123.
Bullying, as defined by Texas House Bill 283, Section 3, will not be tolerated.

bully & victim.

Classroom Interruptions
Section 25.083 of the Texas Education code strictly limits classroom interruptions during the school day for
nonacademic activities such as announcements and sales promotions. Section 37.124 further states that disruption of
classes is a Class C misdemeanor and includes making noise that disrupts the class, enticing or attempting to entice a
student away from a class, preventing a student from attending a class or other required school activity, entering a
classroom without the consent of the teacher or principal, using profane or loud language. In compliance with these
sections of the code, students will not be called out of the classroom for any reason, for example, to speak to a parent
or to retrieve homework, food, or other items. In addition, in order to maintain a secure testing environment, outside
food may not be brought to any students during benchmark or STAAR Testing unless it’s a medical excuse.
Breakfast/Lunch will be provided for them.

Deliveries
Flowers, balloons, cookies, cakes, baskets and other deliveries are not accepted at our school for
safety and security reasons. Parents should not request that personal items be delivered to
students during the school day including: food, money, clothing, musical instruments,
homework or other classroom assignments, projects, etc. State law prohibits the interruption of
classes during instructional time.
Flores, globos, galletas, pastels, canastas y otras entregas de regales no serán aceptamos en

My child and I have been offered the option to receive a paper copy of or to electronically
access at http://lbj.psjaisd.us the Lyndon B. Johnson Middle School Student Handbook and the
Student Code of Conduct for the 2016–17 school year.
I understand that the handbook contains information that my child and I may need during the
school year and that all students will be held accountable for their behavior and will be subject
to the disciplinary consequences outlined in the Student Code of Conduct. If I have any
questions regarding this handbook or the Code of Conduct, I should direct those questions to
the principal at 956-354-2590.

State law requires the district to give you the following information:
Certain information about district students is considered directory information and
will be released to anyone who follows the procedures for requesting the
information unless the parent or guardian objects to the release of the directory
information about the student. If you do not want Pharr- San Juan-Alamo I.S.D. to
disclose directory information from your child’s education records without your
prior written consent, you must notify the district in writing September 2, 2016.
This means that the district must give certain personal information (called “directory
information”) about your child to any person who requests it, unless you have told the district in
writing not to do so. In addition, you have the right to tell the district that it may, or may not, use
certain personal information about your child for specific school-sponsored purposes. The
district is providing you the following forms so that you can communicate your wishes about
these issues.

shall include student name; address; telephone listing; electronic mail address;

Consent/Opt-Out Form
Dear Parent:
The district is required by federal law to notify you and obtain your consent for or denial of (optout) your child’s participation in certain school activities. The activities include any student
survey, analysis, or evaluation, known as a “protected information survey,” that concerns one or
more of the following eight areas:
Political affiliations or beliefs of the student or student’s parents;
Mental or psychological problems of the student or student’s family;
Sexual behavior or attitudes;
Illegal, antisocial, self-incriminating, or demeaning behavior;
Critical appraisals of others with whom the student has a close family relationship;
Legally recognized privileged relationships, such as with lawyers, doctors, or ministers;
Religious practices, affiliations, or beliefs of the student or parents; or
Income, other than as required by law to determine program eligibility or to receive
financial assistance under such a program.
This notice and consent/opt-out requirement also applies to the collection, disclosure, or use of
student information for marketing purposes (“marketing surveys”), and to certain physical
exams and screenings.
The following are activities requiring parental notice and consent or opt-out for the 2016–17
school year. This list is not exhaustive and, for surveys and activities scheduled after the school
year starts, the district will provide parents with notification as well as an opportunity to review

Notificación relacionada con la Información del directorio y la respuesta de los

Formulario de consentimiento/Optar por no participar
