If so, then read on to find out about an exciting opportunity available to YOU
As part of our work developing high quality string playing, Hampshire Music
Service is pleased to announce the continuation of its highly successful
‘Hampshire String Ambassadors’ programme. This exciting venture gives its
participants a unique series of opportunities that they would not normally have
access to.
Offered as a series of workshops and activities, you will be able to ‘dip in and out’
of the programme, depending on your own availability. Working with a variety of
highly experienced specialists in their fields, sessions will focus on developing
your skills in the following areas:

Leadership skills – both as section leaders and ensemble directors
Chamber ensemble playing, both as a group and in smaller units
In addition it is hoped that players will also have access to;

The opportunity to use newly acquired skills leading and coaching less
experienced players
Prestigious performance opportunities
Guest speakers and tutors from Universities, Music Colleges and the Music
Industry
What would be expected of me ?
‘Hampshire String Ambassadors’ players need to be prepared to attend a
selection of evening / non week day sessions throughout the academic year
which might include;

Rehearsals and coaching sessions
Performances
Sharing newly found skills by working with younger less experienced string
players / ensembles
Do I have to be in a Hampshire Music Service ensemble already?
No ! Consideration for membership of the Hampshire String Ambassadors is open to all
eligible players who live or attend school in Hampshire.
What are the age requirements ? What standard do I need to be ?
You need to be in Year 10, 11, 12 or 13 and be at least a good grade/stage 6 standard.

Focus on ‘Latin American’ with Leandro Silvera
Sunday 20 January, 2.00 – 5.00pm Weeke Primary, Stoney Lane, Winchester
Informal performance for parents at 4.30pm
A practical playing session exploring some highlights of the Classical string
chamber repertoire.
If you attended the previous 'Focus on Romantic' session with Leandro you will
know what a treat you are in for !
Leandro has worked as a free-lance cellist with BBC Philharmonic Orchestra,
Hallé Orchestra, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Brighton Philharmonic, the
Orchestra of the Golden Age (on baroque cello) and the Scottish Chamber
Orchestra. He developed a passionate interest for teaching soon after
graduating; since then he has given cello masterclasses for European String
Teachers' Association, the Violoncello Society of London and the Oxford Cello
School, and worked at Bowdoin Summer Music Festival (USA) as Performing
Assistant to Steven Doane.
Between 2000-05 Leandro taught cello and coached young chamber ensembles
at Chetham’s School of Music. He also completed his postgraduate studies with
Hannah Roberts at the RNCM and was awarded a PGDip in 2003.
Leandro moved to London in September 2005 to take up the position of Head of
Strings at King’s College School, Wimbledon.
