WHO WE ARE
Richardson Oilseed Limited, a division of Richardson International, is one of the largest
canola oil processors in the world. Our roots trace back to 1857 when James Richardson
formed a grain trading company. Today, Richardson International is Canada’s largest
privately-owned agribusiness.
Richardson is involved in every aspect of the food and agriculture cycle: from working
with canola growers at seeding time, to transporting those crops across the country
and turning that canola into oils, margarines, shortenings and sprays. We bring
agriculture full-circle and this allows us to provide you, our customers, with innovative
product solutions to meet your business needs.

WHAT WE DO
Richardson Oilseed is a vertically integrated, innovative manufacturer of
canola-based oils, margarines and shortenings supplying retail, food service,
food manufacturers and industrial bakeries worldwide.
Recent developments in the market, such as increased consumer demand for
healthier food choices and new regulatory measures, have resulted in an increased
demand for healthier food ingredients and products. Over the past seven years,
we have focused on meeting our customers’ demand by developing innovative,
non-hydrogenated, trans fat compliant canola-based oils, margarines and
shortenings with lower levels of saturated fat compared to high palm content
products. Our products satisfy food manufacturers and industrial bakeries needs
for healthier, functional products that work.
HOW WE DO IT
With our expert team, a pilot plant, laboratories and test bakeries, Richardson Oilseed
has developed solutions for customers ranging from retail chains to large food
manufacturers. We focus on developing products that meet our customers’ needs
and exceed their expectations.
Our quality assurance team ensures that every product adheres to the highest
standards of quality and food safety through HACCP controls and Good
Manufacturing Principles required for our regulatory requirements,
certification programs and internal corporate standards.
OUR PRODUCTS
Oils - Richardson Oilseed produces multiple zero trans fat canola oils and canolabased blended oils depending on customer needs! Canola oil, with its healthier
nutrition profile, neutral flavor profile, high-stability and higher smoke point, serves
the needs of retail, food service and industrial customers. We market our oils under the
Canola Harvest brand as well as customers’ brands globally.
We have also been producing and managing the crop of high oleic, low linolenic canola
oil (omega-9 canola oil) since 1999. Whether used for frying (HiLo brand) or as an
ingredient, this heat and shelf-stable oil is exceeding frying expectations and shelf life
requirements for restaurants and food manufacturers around the world.
Popcorn oils - Whether you’re a theatre or popcorn manufacturer, we have multiple
zero trans fat popping oils to meet your demanding requirements. With colored and
buttery-flavored bag-in-a-box for automated concession and theater poppers, zero
trans fat for microwavable bags, high stability for kettle corn or packaged popped
kernels, we have everything you need.

Margarines - Richardson Oilseed markets a variety of Canola Harvest margarines
and is a major private label manufacturer of non-hydrogenated and zero trans fat
retail margarines. Whether your key driver is based on a superior nutritional profile, a
specific flavor profile or a packaging design, we can accommodate your requirements.
We also produce a wide range of functional margarines to suit the needs of
restaurants, bakers and food manufacturers alike. We offer products that are not
only non-hydrogenated and zero trans fat, but also lower in saturated fat than many
high palm content alternatives. From cookies to croissants, our margarines won’t
disappoint! Many of our newest formulations are made without artificial ingredients
such as colors, preservatives and flavors, which means they fit the requirements of
today’s leading retailers and consumers seeking cleaner labeling!
Shortenings - Just like our margarines,
we also produce a wide range of functional
shortenings to suit the needs of restaurants,
bakers and food manufacturers alike.
Richardson Oilseed offers products that are
non-hydrogenated, zero trans fat and lower
in saturated fat than many high palm
content alternatives.
Our goal is simple…make functional shortenings that work for everything from icing
to puff pastries. Our Donut Fry-It shortening is a novel product that allows customers
to produce donuts with great glaze adhesion, a longer shelf life, low oil absorption
and a fresher taste profile than most other donuts in the market place.
CANOLA OIL - HEALTHIER, VERSATILE AND FUNCTIONAL
Canola Oil:
• Only 7% saturated fat, the least amount of any common culinary oil
• High in monounsaturated fat, omega-3 fat and a source of omega-6 fat.
• Cholesterol and trans fat free
• Canola has one of the highest smoke points of all cooking oils at 468°F (242°C)
• Neutral flavor that will never upstage other ingredients.

Innovation is what drives our team. Our team of researchers and product developers
are constantly working ahead to develop innovative new products to meet consumer
demand for healthier, functional products. Richardson Oilseed’s’
Research and Development Manager, Gary Knox, is the 2011 recipient
of the Canadian Institute of Food Science and Technology (CIFST)
Food Development Award for his work in developing a donut fry
shortening that is non-hydrogenated, trans fat compliant and
lower in saturated fat than high palm content products.
