Hold a Fairtrade Bake Sale

Hold a Fairtrade
Bake Sale
Everyone loves a bit of cake. A
fun way to engage people can be
achieved by holding a fairtrade
bake sale at your work, university
or within your local community
to provide people with some
delicious treats whilst raising
awareness of Fairtrade. Fairtrade
is about better prices, decent
working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade
for farmers and workers in the
developing world.
Steps to ensuring a
successful Fairtrade
bake sale
Reserve your bake sale
location early. Possible sites
include work places,
universities and schools. Be creative about your site, use a library foyer, art gallery or
local pub.
Advertise the event using
posters and social media. If you’re holding the bake sale at work send an email around the office. If you’re holding it at university, make an
announcement at the end of lectures running up to the event.
“I absolutely love to cook and am committed to doing my own
micro bit to ensure better prices, decent working conditions, local
sustainability and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the
developing world. It was a natural pledge to write my own Fairtrade
cookbook, 50forFT, as my home action”
Oli Husemeyer (Belize 99 and CRN 09) has reached over 400 people through
her Fairtrade baking sessions and dinner parties.
Perhaps ask some friends to get involved with baking the cakes, you could invite a few friends over and have a fun night in baking and
decorating.
Prepare leaflets with Fairtrade recipes and information about Fairtrade to give to people when they buy a cake.
You could even prepare a Fairtrade recipe booklet and sell them along with the cakes to fundraise.
