Six SSHS vocal ensembles performed over thirty numbers that included a variety of holiday tunes from a variety of genres including choral music, chants, acoustic numbers, jazz tunes, musicals, and a capella pieces. Amid the holiday cheer, the musical theater students debuted a humorous song from their upcoming musical “The World Goes Round.” The evening concluded with the Sing-Co-Pation Show Choir’s dazzling performance of “Nightmare Before Christmas.” The Holiday spirit continues this Friday night with the SSHS Instrumental Music’s concert “Changing Lights.” This concert will feature all SSHS bands and will be held at 7 pm in the PAC. Tickets are available for purchase in the student store and at the door. KUDOS The Robotics Team placed 22nd out of 38 teams on Saturday November 8th, 201 at Reseda High School. VOLUNTEER AT THE SIMI VALLEY PUBLIC LIBRARY Students, Do you love books? Do you like helping others? Do you want experience that can be listed on a job application? The Simi Valley Public Library welcomes teen volunteers to assist on either a regular basis or for special events and projects. We currently have opportunities available. Students earn community service credit and gain real job experience. Sign up with a friend and work together! GERMAN CLASS Laternenumzug in German Class On Wednesday, November 12th, 2014, students of Santa Susana's German classes met in the front of PAC at 5:30 pm to celebrate Saint Martin's Day. For this tradition, the German students built a lantern and practiced a German lantern song in class to be used in the parade around the school grounds. Around November 11th each year, Saint Martin's Day in Germany celebrates the good deed of the soldier Martin who shared his warm coat with a freezing beggar during the Middle Ages. COLLEGE AND CAREER CENTER College Visits: We have many amazing Colleges & Universities scheduled to visit. These visits are open to all students. Please check the CCC for the most up-to-date information as we are continually adding college visits. Wednesday, 12/3: Art Institutes Tuesday, 12/9: Art Center, Pasadena Attending a two year college? Planning on transferring? Come check out the colleges? The staff visiting from these colleges are admissions representatives. These reps are the ones that are assigned to our school/district. This means that they are generally the ones that review your application and supporting documents and determine your enrollment into their school. Make the connections and develop those professional relationships that could really help you when it comes to admittance. Tuesdays and Fridays at lunch in the CCC: A counselor and Mrs. Wigdor will be in the CCC to help with your application! (Now through December 12) ASVAB signups are available now for seniors in the CCC. The ASVAB is a career planning and exploration program that combines a multiple-aptitude test with an interest self-assessment and a wide range of career exploration tools. (FREE OF CHARGE). The signups will open 11/17 for juniors and 12/1 for sophomores. When: Friday, December 5, 2014 from 7:45-11:00 AM Parent and Teacher approval is required (please go to the CCC for the permission slip) “Getting into college is one thing. Paying for it is another.” A representative will be in the MUR to present on merit scholarships (even those that qualify for need based aid), the application processes, what the scholarship committees look for in an application, and how to search efficiently for relevant scholarships. CELL PHONE REMINDERS REMINDER: PAC House Rules state cell phones are to be off during performances. We have had complaints from audience members when the performance was disrupted by other audience members turning their phones on to videotape the performance. Please be a considerate audience member and turn off your phone. SENIOR PROJECT PANEL A Senior Project is a culminating activity that demonstrates the knowledge and expertise students have gained in their area of focus while attending SSHS. On Thursday, March 26th, faculty and members of the community will be participating as panelist for our Class of 2015 Senior Project presentations.
