Third Circular The 7th Annual Meeting of the Asian Paleolithic Association In Commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of the Discovery of Seokjangni Paleolithic Site, Gongju, Korea Dear participants, The 7th APA conference is only two months away. Thanks to everybody, things are getting in order. Especially, we owe a lot to the city of Gongju and the Korea Research Foundation for their supports. For your information, conference venue has changed to the newly-built Convention Center of the Gongju National University. Otherwise, there is no change. So far, almost 100 researchers from 16 countries have indicated interests in participating the conference. However, we are yet to hear from some what they want to discuss. With conference dates fast approaching, we cannot consider them in finalizing the schedule unless we are given relevant information by September 20. We are organizing the conference under the assumption that all the participants are expected to arrive on November 12, Wednesday and leave on November 16, Sunday. We must emphasize that the organizing committee cannot make any hotel and transportation arrangement for anybody before or after the conference period. We hope that this final circular can answer questions related to pick-up and transportation service once your arrive Korea. As Gongju is not connected by railroad, we plan to meet you at the port of entry. Therefore, It will help a lot if we have your flight schedule. Please send us when you arrive as soon as possible. We will see you soon! With best wishes, Organizers Chair, Organizing Committee Secretary Committee Members YI, Seonbok (President, the Korean Paleolithic Society) KONG, Sujin (Yonsei University Wonju Museum) CHO, Tae-sop (Yonsei University Wonju Campus) LEE, Hanyong (Jeongok Prehistory Museum) LEE, Jungchul (Hanyang University Museum) YOO, Yongwook (Chungnam National University) 1. Upon Arrival We expect that most of you will use the Incheon International Airport (airport code ICN). After you clear the customs, you can find our representatives waiting for you with a picket showing <7th APA> on it. If you fail to find one, please come to the information desk in the lobby between the Arrival Gate D and E nearby the Exit 10 (see the attached guide map). Please send us your travel information as soon as possible so that we will not miss any of you! It is all the more important to do so if you are arriving at other airport or by boat. In case of emergency at the airport, please contact us by dialing <010-6204-8535>. 2. Registration and Payment Upon arrival at Gongju, you need to register for the conference. Except those who have received a exemption notice in their invitation letter, everybody is required to pay for registration(US $250) and post-conference excursion(US $150) at the time of registration. An extra payment of US $50 per night is required for single occupancy for lodging. For an accompanying person(s), registration and field excursion will cost $150 each. Payments may be made in Japanese Yen or Chinese Yuan. 3. Post-conference Excursion On November 15, we will visit the Imjin River basin, close to the DMZ. Given the distance involved, we will leave Gongju at 5 am. Breakfast stop is scheduled at 7:30 am. Lunchbox will be distributed at around noon while visiting a site. Dinner will be held at the Jeongok Prehistory Museum at around 5:30 pm. We hope to arrive at the Hoam Guest House of the Seoul National University by 9 pm. 4. Departures For Incheon Airport, we do not recommend taxi service as a scheduled limousine bus leaves the guest house every 30 to 40 minutes. Fare is 15,000 Korean Won and must be paid in Korean currency. Normally, it takes about 70 minutes to reach the airport. For Gimpo Airport, you can use local bus and the subway. It is cheap (2,000 Won in total) and takes 80-90 minutes. Taxi service is obviously expensive and faster so that you may arrive in about 30 minutes for about 25,000 Won, if not less. For reservation, ask the hotel front. For questions, please write to [email protected].
