g burns jug band The G Burns Jug Band plays a wide slice of pre-war American music. Like the Lee Highway which lent its name to an oft-played fiddle tune, the Burns’ repertoire reaches from coast to coast. Based in San Diego, the G Burns Jug Band is led by multiinstrumentalist and native Kentuckian Clinton Davis who grew up hearing jug band music in its birthplace of Louisville. Moving out west at the age of 23, he brought with him the sounds of jug bands, string bands, and tent revivals from home, and began absorbing the sounds of an old southwest: Texas songsters, cowboy fiddlers, and dance hall tunes. With the help of fiddler Batya MacAdam-Somer, accordionist Meghann Welsh, tuba-ist Jonathan Piper, and washboardist Andy Rae, the G Burns Jug Band cuts across that very landscape in search of older joys to be made new. In August 2013, the band launched their residency at Black Cat Bar, the G Burns Barn Dance, held the 1st Saturday of every month. In May 2014 they released their debut self-titled album and toured the West Coast. They have played shows and festivals with Jim Kweskin, Del McCoury, Rev. Peyton’s Big Damn Band, Frank Fairfield, The Americans (LA), and The Earl Bros. (San Fran).
