Strawberries Floral Boutique
Toppers Job Fair
Northwest Employment Works was happy to
assist Toppers Pizza by hosting a Job fair and
advertising their positions on our job bank.
“It was really easy to get
into the program, I’ve been
quite pleased with it.”
We recently visited Strawberries Floral Boutique, one of
the many Employers, which has used our wage subsidy
program. She was happy to help spread the word about
the services we offer and how we have helped her to
train employees on the job.

Q&A: Ask an Expert
Q: Do you think age can play a
factor in not getting hired, am I too
old?
A: There are no maximum age
limits for Employees. The law to
eliminate mandatory retirement
came into effect in Ontario in 2006.
Congratulations!
We are happy to congratulate Greg Vallance, Employment Advisor in
Marathon on his accomplishment of being named Young Professional of
the Month for November with The Young Professionals Network of
Ontario (YPNO)
The Young Professionals Network of Ontario indicated on their Facebook
page that:
“He exemplifies the true meaning of community leadership, where he
dedicates his time to the Marathon District Chamber of Commerce, is the
Vice President of the newly formed Ignite - Marathon's Young
Professionals Network and volunteers hours to Superior North Victim
Services & Canadian Red Cross
Greg demonstrates the ability that young professionals in small
communities can grow a personal and professional life.”
There are mandated minimum age
requirements for certain industries.

That being said, age discrimination
does still occur. Employers may
wonder: Will this person want to
retire soon, can they physically do
the job, how technologically skilled
is the worker, and can the worker
take direction from a younger
supervisor?
If you are wondering if age is playing
a factor in your job search, you may
want to consider ensuring that your
resume is focused on your skills and
not on dates, highlight your
technological skills, and ensure that
you are clearly indicating your
willingness to be a long term
employee. Before you make any
changes talk to an Employment
Advisor to get a second opinion.
Many Employers value older
workers as they are seen as having
an excellent work ethic and
exceptional Employer loyalty.
