14.1
Place the correct form of the pronoun in the box provided. The 1st form will
always be a form of ille and the 2nd a form of is.
Here is what they are looking for Pater filiam vocat:
filiam ad patrem festinat.
The father calls his daughter: The daughter hurries to her father.
In the last part of the sentence changes the nouns daughter and father into pronouns. She
hurries to him.
The daughter (she) is obviously singular and feminine. She is also used as a subject and
must be in the nominative case. The correct form should be illa. The father (him) is
obviously masculine and singular. He is the object of the preposition ad (ad + acc.) and
must be accusative. The correct form should be eum. Always use the forms of ille first
and is second for this exercise. Use the chart below to find the correct pronoun. Use the
steps to set up your thought process.
Step 1 – Translate the sentence.
Step 2 – replace the underlined English nouns with English pronouns.
Step 3 – determine the gender and number of the pronouns.
Step 4 - determine the use (case) of the pronoun in the sentence.
Step 5 – choose the correct Latin pronoun from the chart below (the same gender, number
and case that you picked above).
Step 1 -Scintilla Horatiae fabulam narrat – Scintilla tells Horatia a story.
Horatia Scintillam laeta audit – Horatia happily hears Scintilla.
Step 2 – She happily hears her.
Step 3 - she = fem. sing her = fem. sing.

Fill in the blank with the correct form of the pronoun only.
Here are the translations for the sentences. Determine the use of the pronoun in the
sentence and choose the correct form from below.
Scintilla ad Horatiam_____ vertit:para_____ ad cenam.
Scintilla turns herself to Horatia: prepare yourself for dinner.
In the sentence above herself refers to Scintilla and must be feminine singular. Since this
is a reflexive the form se is always used.
In the second part of the sentence, yourself refers to Horatia and must be feminine and
singular. Since herself is a direct object (she prepares herself) it will be accusative te.
