PROSECCO ROUTE TO VENICE
CYCLING THROUGH VENETO’S VINEYARDS
THE PROSECCO ROUTE TO VENICE
Cycle through the vineyards of the Veneto region, sampling sparkling Prosecco and fiery Grappa as
you travel to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Venice, hailed by the NY Times as ‘undoubtedly the
most beautiful city built by man’.
SUMMARY
Experience Italy’s varied landscapes as the flat plains of the Veneto region give way to the rolling foothills of
the Prosecco vineyards, all the time surrounded by the imposing Italian Dolomites. Cycle through Medieval
villages, cypress-lined lanes and along the winding River Sile, towards the city of Venice, world-famous for
its glorious architecture, rich history and iconic waterways.
Your cycling tour starts in the charming walled city of Treviso. Cycle on through quiet farmland, passing
small villages, towards the town of Mussolente, where you will spend two nights at a peaceful country hotel.
The next day’s ride takes you through Bassano al Grappa, where you can taste the strong fiery liquor
originating from the town. You continue past Monte Grappa, site of many battles during WWI.
The following day you ride to the ‘city of one hundred horizons’, Asolo, so-called due to its beautiful
panoramic mountain vistas. On crossing the Piave river you will notice the change in landscape, as
vineyards start to appear all around. Following the Prosecco route from winery to winery, you cycle to Lake
Revine, where you can stop for a refreshing dip. You can extend the route to include a visit to the historic
city of Vittorio Veneto, before cycling back to spend your second night at a comfortable agroturismo.
Your final cycling day is through the gentle Prosecco hills, towards the small village of Gorgo al Monticano,
where you will overnight in a beautiful 4* Venetian villa. The next day, make your way to Venice, where you
have the full day at leisure to explore the magnificent city before spending the night in a 3* hotel overlooking
the Canale Grande.
Your holiday includes seven nights at a selection of fine accommodations including elegant three and four
star hotels, stylish country house hotels and welcoming farmhouses. Breakfast each morning, luggage
transfer, emergency support from our local representatives, detailed turn by turn route notes and maps are
of course all included. Bike hire is available as an optional extra.

DAY 1
Arrive in Treviso
Treviso is easily accessed by train from six major
airports: Malpensa, Linate, Bergamo, Bologna,
Venice and Treviso itself.
Treviso’s city walls, still intact, date back to
Roman times. The town itself is a maze of
arcaded streets, where you can still make out
faded frescos above you. Enjoy a walk along the
banks of the canal, flanked by weeping willows,
before making your way to your first overnight
stop.
Overnight: In the heart of the old city, the
welcoming Albergo Il Focolare has understated,
elegant rooms. Enjoy breakfast in the provincial
style dining room, or have it brought up to your
room for that extra luxury.
DAY 2
Paese to Mussolente
Today starts with a short train ride to the town of
Paese, where your cycling adventure begins.
Follow a scenic route along the River Sile, and
cycle along the narrow winding roads through
cultivated fields, towards Castelfranco Veneto,
Overnight: Enjoy a relaxing two nights at the
peaceful Albergo Volpara. It boasts large
gardens surrounded by chestnut and cherry trees
and an adjacent trattoria, which is renowned for
its traditional Venetian cuisine.
DAY 3
Mussolente Circular Route
Today’s ride is a circular route from Mussolente.
The route takes you along quiet, countryside
roads to the town of Bassano del Grappa,
famous for producing the fiery liquor made from
pomace. The Grappa Museum makes for an
interesting detour. Also in Bassano del Grappa is
the Alpini bridge over the River Brenta, designed
by Andrea Palladio in 1569, and most recently
rebuilt after being destroyed during WWII. After
lunch, continue your route through tiny rural
villages until you reach Cassanego, with the
imposing Monte Grappa looming over you– the
site of many battles during WWI. A gentle
descent leads you back to your hotel.
Cycle: 35km. Ascent: 600m Descent: 600m
Overnight: Albergo Volpara.
DAY 4
Mussolente to Follina
Leaving Mussolente behind, you cycle on to
Asolo, known as ‘the pearl of Veneto’ and ‘city of
one hundred horizons’ due to its panoramic
mountain vistas. Indeed, the backdrop of the
Alps makes for a stunning view while you stop for
a leisurely cappuccino, before continuing along
one of the most picturesque roads of the region.
On crossing the Piave River, the countryside
noticeably changes, and the steep Prosecco
vineyards start to dominate the landscape. A final
push is required up the hill to the hotel, where
you can relax with a chilled glass of the sparkling
stuff!
Cycle: 48km. Ascent: 500m Descent: 500m
Overnight: Expect a warm welcome from your
hosts at Agroturismo La Bella, a family-run, rustic
country farmhouse with spacious rooms. The
traditional restaurant specializes in trout.
DAY 5
Follina Circular Route
A steep climb leads you to the tiny village of
Rolle, which is followed by a descent to Lake
Revine, where you can stop for a revitalising
swim if you are warm from the morning’s ride.
There is the option of extending the route an
additional 5km to the historic town of Vittorio
Veneto, the site of the last battle between Italy
and Austria-Hungary during WWI. The city is
made up of two towns, Serravalle and Ceneda,
which were annexed in 1866. A gentle climb out
of town leads you through quiet woods and
amongst vineyards for your journey back to the
agroturismo.
Cycle: 45-50km Ascent: 700m Descent: 700m
Overnight: Agroturismo La Bella
DAY 6
Follina to Gorgo Monticano
Today’s ride takes you through the undulating
hills of the Prosecco region, leading you to
Conegliano, an historic town with a magnificent
12th-century castle. Further along your route, the
town of Oderzo awaits, with its many ancient
ruins dating from Roman times when it was an
important crossroad in the Roman Empire. After
spending some time in the beautiful Piazza
Grande, continue through the beautiful
landscape onto the small village of Gorgo al
Monticano.
Cycle: 55km. Ascent: 250m Descent: 410m
Overnight: Villa Revedin****, is a gorgeous
