INSTRUCTIONS:
Perform all of following calculations and convert them to decimal feet rounded to the nearest hundredths place (i.e. 2
decimal places 5.63 not 5.627). The answerer sheet is for you final answers and each answer should also contain any
units or tiles that are appropriate. (i.e. Sqf or SF for square feet, $ for dollar values or lbs for weights) If your answer
does not have units or is not rounded correctly it will be marked wrong even if you have the correct answer in part. All
answers should be clear and legible with units and decimal places clearly apparent.

1 | P a g e Time, Materials and Wages Knowing how what it takes in time and materials is important factor in every job. Much of what you account for is either volumes of materials like stone, soil or mulch, individual plant counts and even materials like seed and fertilizer. Getting calculations incorrect can cost you time and money. An efficient business needs to keep a control on their time and costs as much as possible to maximize their profits. Decimal hours are calculated by dividing the number of minuets you have by 60. .083
.25 per per Standard Hour Day Workday Minutes 60 1440 480 Hours 1 24 8 Seeding: Rates are nearly always given in kilograms of seed per 100 square meters. The calculation is simple enough. Example: I have an area of 1,500 square meters and my seed label informs us that the recommended seeding rate is between 4‐6 kilograms per 100 square meters. You can take the number in the middle of 5 pounds per 100 square meters. Then multiply the rate of 5 by number of 100 of square meters you have which is 15. Thus 5 x 15 = 75 kilograms of seed needed. You can also work backwards as well to find out area seeded or a seeded rate if you run out before a job is done. Notes to remember: 1 Yard = 3 Feet 1 Square Yard = 9 square feet Large areas will be measured in Hectares 1 light‐year = 946,073,047,2580,800 meters Time Calculations 1. How many 8 hour days are represented in 1750 hours? 2. How many 8 hour days are represented in 2756 hours? 3. A four person crew works 5 days for 7.5 hours each, how many hours did each crew member work? 4. How many hours are represented in 105,000 minutes? 5. How many hours are represented in 1,050 minutes? 6. A time sheet notes a worker put 5.25 hours to a job, how many minutes does that represent? 2 | P a g e 7. How many hours are represented in 30 minutes? 8. How many hours are represented in 47 minutes? 9. If a crew of 2 laborers and 1 supervisor worked four full days (7am to 4pm) and 1 partial day 7am ‐ 1pm with half an hour (.50) not working for lunch each day, how many hours can be accounted to the job? 10. If 8 people work 2.25 hours on a job, how many hours of labor have been used to complete the work? 11. If a 3 person crew can install 200 square meters of sod per 8 hour day, how many hours will it take to install 8100 square meters? 12. How many work days of 8 hours will it take a crew of 3 to install the sod above? 13. If a crew of 3 can prune and cleanup 1200 square meters of landscape beds per hour how long will it take to clear 22,870 square meters? 14. If you only had 1 day to complete the total pruning in #13 how many people would you have to send to complete the job? 15. A Flower bed at Disney World has an area of 600 x 10 meters. This bed is planted three times each year with different flowers. The beds can be prepared and planted at a rate of 7.5 square meters an hour how many hours are required each year to plant the flower beds. 2 Points Time and Materials Calculations16. The seeding rate for a new lawn is 5 kilograms per 100 square meters how much seed is needed to seed 1500 square meters 17. Your employee comes to your office and says "he had to buy more seed to finish a job" and blamed you for a bad estimate. You looked at his daily log and he noted that he used 132.5 kilos of seed for 7500 square meters what was his seeding rate? 18. Annual flowers are planted with 4 plants per square foot how many plants will you need to plant a bed that is 18 square yards? 19. A site has 690 meters sidewalks a stick edger can edge 2.5 meters per minute. If the sidewalks are edged 6 times per year how many hours per year are need. 3 | P a g e 20. You are asked plant a bed that has an area of 16m x 5m with a 50:50 mix of yellow and red Chrysanthemums. You will plant the Chrysanthemums edge to edge with each flower having a width of 42 cm, how many Chrysanthemums will you need? 2 Points 21. Tulip bulbs are planted 7 cm on center how many bulbs are planted in 15 square meters? 22. Mulch is applied at a thickness of 7.5cm. You need to mulch an area that includes beds with the following dimensions: 1) 15x8m 2) 25x 13m 3) 16x4.5m. How many cubic meters of mulch is needed. 23. You can apply the mulch from problem 23 at rate of 1 cubic meter per 0.5 hour, how many hours will you need to apply the mulch 24. You truck can hold 13 cubic meters per load how many loads will be delivered to the site 25. You have dug 10 pits for new trees each with a volume of .63 m3. The trees to be planted have a ball volume of .42m3. The soil is slow to drain, you need to add 15% of gravel to the backfill, what is the new volume of waste soil. 2 Points 26. If your professor was a TV show host what type of TV program would he host? 27. How many hectares can a mower 121cm mower moving at 3.1 kph and 100% efficiency, mow in an hour? (Table 1) 28. A lawn totaling 1.0 hectares and can be mown by a 121cm mower moving at 3.1 kph and 100% efficiency, how many hours will it take to mow the lawn? (Table 1) 29. A lawn totaling 123,000 square meters and can be mown by a 152cm mower moving at 4.3 kph and 100% efficiency, how many hours will it take to mow the lawn? (Table 1) 30. A lawn totaling 1.9 hectares and is mown by two different mowers at the same time. The #1 mower is a 121cm mower moving at 2.8 kph and 80% efficiency and needs to mow an area of .68 hectares. The #2 mower is a 152cm mower moving at 4.0 kph and 100% efficiency and needs to mow an area of 1.22 hectares. (Table 1) 2 Points 31. A lawn totaling 1.2 hectates and can be mown by a 152cm mower moving at 4.3 kph and 80% efficiency. For every 1 hour of mowing you need to have 0.5 hours of clean up time, how many hours of cleanup are needed? (Table 1) 2 Points Harder Time, Materials and wage Calculations32‐38. How many hours will you need per year to complete the table of work? 2 points per Fill out the table but write your final answers on the first page. 4 | P a g e Operation Time per year Area Unit Mowing 25 3.25 Hectare Trimming 25 NA Clean Up 25 NA Edge Walks 5 328 Weeding 20 128 Prune Shrubs 2 115 Hours Per Performance Factor 0.34 Hectare per hour Hours per mowing hour Hours per 0.33
