MEGALITH'14 Department of Civil Engineering IIT Kharagpur EDIFICE Introduction Dynamics is a branch of physics (specifically classical mechanics) concerned with the study of forces and torques and their effect on motion, as opposed to kinematics, which studies the motion of objects without reference to its causes. The concept of movement in a structure is known as dynamic architecture. Dynamic structures modify their shape constantly. It involves fourth dimension: time. These 'dynamic buildings' marks the beginning of a new era in the architecture, a challenge to the traditional architecture. The Dynamic Buildings define the start of a new conception in architecture: a concept of Buildings in motion, in contradiction with the same idea of real estate, that it is at heart of every construction. Apart from the semantic issue, this new conception of architecture not only changes the aspect of cities, but also the idea of modernity, beyond the relationship between buildings and who lives in, and between buildings and the atmosphere that accommodates them. Maintaining an only architectonic structure, always in evolution, the skyscraper offers infinite solutions: in fact every floor rotates apart from the other, creating a building with infinite and always various shapes. Present Scenario Website: megalith.co.in Email: [email protected] MEGALITH'14 Department of Civil Engineering IIT Kharagpur The Dynamic Tower (also known as Dynamic Architecture Building or the Da Vinci Tower) is a planned 420-metre (1,378 ft), 80-floor moving skyscraper in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, designed by architect David Fisher. Similar to the Suite Vollard completed in 2001 in Brazil, each floor will be able to rotate independently. This will result in a constantly changing shape of the tower. Each floor will rotate a maximum of 6 metres (20 ft) per minute, or one full rotation in 90 minutes. Problem Statement What is expected of the student is : Give a detailed analysis of the mechanism of design and construction of the building and also present a discussion on the prefabrication technique and how it’s going to be useful in construction. Present a brief idea of the eco-friendly nature of these types of structure. Discuss some points that how it can help to boom industrialization. What sort of problems that we can face during and after construction and the ways to overcome it. What should be the approach of Indian government to accomplish the goal of the construction of these type of structures in India. Rules and Regulations The event is open to all. The maximum team size is four. The participants will have to submit an abstract based on the questions asked in the problem statement. The report should be submitted with minimum font size of 11 and single line spacing. Relevant statistics and data can be added as appendices at the end. All submissions must be done before 26th January,2014. Mail your submissions to ' [email protected] ' with subject as Edifice_Submission_Teamname Selected teams will have to present their ideas (in the form of Power Point Presentation) during Megalith 2014 in IIT Kharagpur. The decision of the Megalith Team shall be final and binding.
