BEDSIDE MONITORING OF ENDOTRACHEAL TUBE POSITION With questions call: Denise Smith (407.353.2569), R. Sandler, MD (407.575.3458), H. Mansy, PhD (312.213.1086), Dr. Perez (407.841.5218) Complete forms: Sensor 1. Confirm consent form is signed. 2. Fill out at least key information (Bolded) On/Off Recording prep: 1. Attach tape to sensors and cut to size (if not attached) 2. Confirm that all 4 slide switches on recorder are positioned to the left ( ) 3. Turn on recorder (slide down the left button towards base and hold for about 3 sec until recorder turns on ( ) 4. Check [a.] battery level (top right of screen) and [b.] that 4 “record ready” lights are on ( ) 5. Turn on electronic stethoscopes + microphone (x 4 total) ( ) a. If any of these had been left on from previous session, change batteries before recording 6. Set volume to about 4.5 – DO NOT change volume after first sound check 7. Check recording level by stroking back of sensors. The level should be into the green zone ( ) In patient room: 1. Peel tape and place 3 sensors: a. Left and right chest, anterior axillary line, level of nipple line midline ( ) b. lateral neck near midline ( ) 2. Check each sensor (one at a time) by scratching the skin. Now sounds heard through headphones should sound like breath sounds If you hear wire noise, check where wire is rubbing and correct. 3. Check if there are loud noises in the room that can be quieted. Check slider Record ready Record Recorder On/Off To Record 1. 2. To start recording, only need to press red record button (another red light should turn on) ( Write on data collection sheet a. Recording number (called the “ZOOM” # on top screen right) b. Folder number (called “FOLDER” on top of screen left) 3. Narration a. Subject letter code from data sheet b. ETT tip position and ETT #cm at the lips. NOTE each tube position change. 4. To pause recording, press the pause/play key (red light will blink) 5. To resume, press the play/pause key again 6. To end recording, press the stop button (marked w/ white square) Zoom number will change only if recording is stopped (not paused). If this occurs, note new zoom number When recording is complete: a. .Remove sensor from patient & Turn off recording unit b. Turn off electronic stethoscopes (x3) and microphone (x1) c. Complete data sheet d. Remove old adhesive from sensors e. Wipe down sensors and wires with alcohol wipes, store in plastic bag f. Attach new adhesive to the sensors g.
