Debbie Hilton Bio - Debbie Hilton has over 20 years of experience providing administration support for small to large businesses. Michael Brummidge Bio - Michael knows we seek routine and comfort in our lives but are enthralled by the unexpected; a funny moment in a story, a quirky photo, or a film that touches our hearts. Through digital technology we communicate and inspire. He studied at James Cook University graduating with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and worked for media production studios in Townsville and in Brisbane; you can still hear his jingles on radio, television and at the cinema. Michael is motivated by three main passions: To meet interesting people every week, To do something useful every day, To explore forty countries by the age of forty. He knows our modern lives are complicated, diverse and littered by moments of clarity. He's aware of the cultural revolution taking place, where, thanks to advances in technology, everybody can now be creative; we can all write, take photos, make films and are simultaneously the creators of the stories we love, and the audience. He has produced work for AIMS, ANHU, The Discovery Channel and National Geographic, from locations all around the world. And remember to recommend which country Michael could explore next, he's got four more to explore. Michael continually develops useful skills and knowledge for project development, business strategy, multimedia storytelling and community engagement. Workshop Details Our overall aim of the ABC Open workshop is is to provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to create and tell stories and publish these stories on the ABC. This practical writing workshop session will focus on. Sue McGinty Bio - Sue is Professor in the School of Indigenous Studies at JCU. Prof McGinty education and achievements include Education and Indigenous Australian Studies Teacher and researcher with special expertise in Indigenous Education Winning several nationally competitive grants Publishing many papers in her field of research as well as on issues in higher education Postgraduate Teaching Award winner Sue’s papers and research focus on examining ways of reengaging young people who have disengaged from schooling, and to create digital repositories for Indigenous histories. She has been a successful supervisor of graduate students winning an Australian Learning and Teaching Program Award for Postgraduate Teaching and Supervision in 2009. She has published, with Koo Yew Lie from Malaysia and Mahnaz Saeidi from Iran, a cross-country study on research students' perceptions of the role of supervision and cultural knowledge in thesis production. She is currently working with Dr Cathy Day on developing a Foundation for the research of issues associated with the brain and mind in the context of the tropics. Workshop Details For communities to flourish, individuals must also flourish which requires healthy minds and bodies. Populations in the tropical regions of Australia are the subject of major stress, trauma and other diseases of the brain and mind. These range from children suffering from various forms of abuse and neglect which can lead to serious physical and mental health issues, to veterans returning from deployment to war zones with post-traumatic stress disorders. Stress can also be found in farming communities, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, and living in the tropics has its own set of issues. Participants will be involvement though a “think tank”. Ricky Anderson Bio - Ricky is a Senior Advisor for the Injury Prevention and Management Program Agriculture Unit, Department of Justice and Attorney-General, and grew up in Mount Isa, Queensland. Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Post-Graduate Diploma in Science, Exercise Physiology (Clinical), Diploma of Government (Workplace Inspections) Certificate IV in Government (Investigation) Six years as a Work Health and Safety Inspector, Workplace Health and Safety Queensland She is currently competing in Ironman triathlon races trying to qualify for the Hawaiian Ironman World Championships and ran a marathon in Florence recently. Ricky’s next challenge is a marathon this coming November in Las Vegas. Workshop Details WHSQ Agriculture Unit has developed the 'Serious about Farm Safety' guide for small to medium sized businesses. The guide contains information, samples and templates to assist these businesses to meet the compliance obligations through developing a safety management system. The Guide is an overview of the elements of developing the safety management system and help to demystify the process which they can then apply to their own business. Each participant will receive a copy of the guide, including the templates, on CD.
