SELECTIVE SERVICE VERIFICATION
Your application for federal student aid has been received. The U.S. Department of Education was unable
to match your Social Security Number with the records of the Selective Service System and requires this
office to resolve this issue.
1) If you are registered with Selective Service, please submit a copy of your Registration Verification
Card to this office. If you do not have a copy of your Card, you may request one by calling (847)
688-6888.
2) If you have not registered with Selective Service, and you are a male between the ages of 18 and 26,
complete a Selective Service registration form, which is available at your local post office. You
may also register on the internet at www.sss.gov. Provide this office with a copy of your Selective
Service registration card, once you receive it.
3) Automatic exemption is given to persons who are:
- female
- on active duty in the armed forces (this does not apply to members of the
Reserves or National Guard who are not on active duty)
- born before 1960
- less than 18 years of age
- a citizen of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands or the
Republic of Palau
- commissioned officers of the Public Health Service or a member of the Reserve of the Public
Health Service who is on active duty as provided in section 6(a) (2) of the Military Selective
Service Act.

4) If your situation is not reflected in 1, 2, or 3 above, please contact the Selective Service System to
request a Status Information Letter. You must submit this letter to the OFA, along with a letter of
explanation as to why you have not registered. Include dates, time frames and other information
you feel is relevant to your situation.
Processing of your application will continue, but no funds will be disbursed until the appropriate
documentation is submitted, reviewed and approved.
