The Oculus at World Trade Center Transportation Hub
New York, New York
We erected 12,500 tons of Italian-fabricated steel to create this
dramatic entrance to the World Trade Center Transportation
Hub, designed by renowned architect Santiago Calatrava. The
components – weighing up to 85 tons – needed to be erected to
tolerances as tight as one-eighth of an inch, and some of the welds
are four inches thick.

highly sustainable and community-oriented headquarters for
Brooks Sports, the running shoe and apparel company. Brooks

As part of Skanska’s larger sustainability agenda, green construction
plays an important role in ensuring that buildings and infrastructure
– and those who use them – can thrive for generations. We continue
to build on our LEED® expertise to support you no matter what green
goal you have: perhaps it is attaining certification under the LEED
version 4, Living Building Challenge, WELL or Envision standards, or
otherwise achieving net zero energy, waste and water targets.

Elizabeth River Tunnels
Norfolk and Portsmouth, Virginia
A Skanska-led team is implementing a $2.1 billion public-private
partnership (PPP) solution to expand capacity of one of the country’s
most heavily traveled two-lane roadways. By combining public and
private financing with innovative development and construction
approaches, our team will complete construction in phases between
2016 and 2018. This includes the project’s centerpiece, a new
tunnel tube below the Elizabeth River. Our consortium is overseeing
operations and maintenance of all the works – stretching 51 lane
miles – until 2070.
Florida Polytechnic University
Innovation, Science and Technology Building
Lakeland, Florida
Buildings don’t usually move. But this building does, as its
signature feature is 94 operable louver arms that raise and lower
via hydraulics each day, tracking the sun to shade the 250-footlong skylight along the structure’s spine. Said the project’s noted
architect, Santiago Calatrava: “Skanska’s commitment to deliver
a project of such exceptional quality, on a demanding schedule
within the limited budget, all while mentoring a team of local
craftsmen, has, in my opinion, solidified your construction team
as one of the preeminent builders in the nation.”

Building construction
One of the largest U.S. general builders, Skanska has particular
strengths in the healthcare, aviation, education, commercial,
mission critical, life sciences, and sports and entertainment markets.
In many of these sectors, we have centers of excellence in which we
pool our knowledge from past experience and from our experts to
ensure the smoothest possible delivery of your project. We’re at the
forefront of building construction innovation, with our expertise in
multi-system prefabrication, virtual design and construction (VDC),
lean construction and integrated project delivery (IPD). Additionally,
in select metro areas we can self-perform major parts of work,
should that best meet your needs.
Infrastructure, power and industrial construction
From subways to bridges to complexes that treat water,
manufacture goods and produce power, Skanska is one of the
biggest infrastructure, power and industrial builders. We focus
on delivering such projects through design-build, public-private
partnership, engineer-procure-construct and construction
management/general contractor methods, as these allow us to
utilize our significant construction know-how to bring you the
greatest value. We offer particular experience with projects that
exceed $500 million.
Adding greater certainty and reliability to how we deliver these
projects are our 1,000-plus machine heavy equipment fleet, which
ensures that we have the specialty units available and ready
to work when needed; specific virtual design and construction
expertise so your project is designed and planned in the best way
possible; and the capability to self-perform significant portions of
work, giving us direct control over such key project elements as
schedule, quality and safety.
Commercial development
Skanska develops customer-focused and highly sustainable
office and multi-family properties in Boston, Houston, Seattle
and Washington, D.C. We approach these development projects
by focusing on the end-user experience and how each project
connects to its neighborhood, all to create high-performing,
flexible workplaces and innovative places to live.
We have invested more than $1 billion in nearly a dozen projects
in those four U.S. markets. We self-finance the majority of these
buildings, enabling us to focus on meeting the needs of such clients
as Brooks Sports, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Tommy Bahama.
Each of our developments aims to achieve a minimum LEED Gold
certification, and we track each project’s carbon footprint to help us
progress on our commitment to sustainability.
Infrastructure development
There’s a great need in our country to replace or improve America’s
highways, tunnels, bridges, public buildings, airports, transit lines
and water/wastewater plants. But public funding is limited. For an
increasing number of these projects, the best solution may be a
public-private partnership (PPP), a delivery method that leverages
available public funds with private sector investment to generate
critical infrastructure projects more quickly, efficiently, and with
a focus on the asset’s entire life cycle. Skanska is a global PPP
leader, having delivered 31 such projects in eight countries using
more than $500 million of our own equity investments. We work
openly and honestly with our clients as their long-term partner,
providing financial support and industry-leading expertise for the
development, design, construction and operation of PPP projects.
Nemours Children’s Health System
Orlando, Florida, and Wilmington, Delaware
Our Nemours partnership started with building the 630,000-squarefoot Nemours Children’s Hospital in Orlando, and continued with
the 450,000-square-foot expansion of the Nemours/Alfred I. duPont
Hospital for Children in Wilmington. Said Nemours Foundation CEO
David Bailey: “I have tremendous trust in Skanska, because they
deliver on timelines, budget and process every time, even putting
the interests of Nemours before their own.”
