JARED HARRIS starring in Jane Eyre “With LATW, I have had the pleasure of performing in some of the greatest plays ever written, with some of the greatest actors and directors this country has produced.” — ALFRED MOLINA starring in Fathers and Sons LIVE AT UCLA’S JAMES BRIDGES THEATER! September 24 – 27, 2015 JUDGMENT AT NUREMBERG October 22 – 25, 2015 STEEL MAGNOLIAS November 19 – 22, 2015 AMERICAN BUFFALO December 10 – 13, 2015 JANE EYRE January 28 – 31, 2016 THE MONEY SHOT March 10 – 13, 2016 FATHERS AND SONS April 14 – 17, 2016 AS YOU LIKE IT May 19 – 22, 2016 THE MOUNTAINTOP June 23 – 26, 2016 GOD OF CARNAGE July 14 – 17, 2016 T.B.A. HARRY HAMLIN GEOFFREY AREND starring in God of Carnage KATE BURTON JEANIE HACKETT JENNIFER WESTFELDT The Money Shot Fathers and Sons JAMES MARSTERS CHRISTINA HENDRICKS Judgment at Nuremberg Steel Magnolias Steel Magnolias BEN FELDMAN REID SCOTT EMILY BERGL Fathers and Sons Fathers and Sons As You Like It As You Like It HECTOR ELIZONDO God of Carnage SEPTEMBER 24-27, 2015 Judgment at Nuremberg by Abby Mann | Directed by Shannon Cochran Starring Harry Hamlin and Alan Mandell Abby Mann’s stage adaptation of his Oscar-winning drama follows a US-led war crimes tribunal as it weighs the fate of German judges. Hans Rolfe is a defense attorney for a fiercely independent jurist who once called Hitler “ill-mannered,” is he guilty of heinous crimes against humanity, or was he merely enforcing his country’s sanctioned laws in the name of “national security?” Judgment at Nuremberg is an absorbing probe of the ethics of personal responsibility versus public duty. Judgment at Nuremberg retains its power to move and provoke us. – Time Magazine OCTOBER 22-25, 2015 Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling | Directed by Jessica Kubzansky Starring Kate Burton and Jeanie Hackett A close circle of small-town friends gathers in the beauty parlor owned by Truvy. As the ladies prepare for the wedding of Shelby, daughter of M’Lynn (Kate Burton), they exchange wisdom and wisecracks about life and love. Steel Magnolias beautifully balances laugh-out-loud moments with poignant emotional depth. …a skillfully crafted, lovingly evoked picture of eccentricity in the small-town South. – Drama-Logue NOVEMBER 19-22, 2015 American Buffalo by David Mamet | Directed by Brian Kite American Buffalo seethes with ambition and irony. Mamet’s gift for storytelling and forging poetry from both the plain-spoken and profane turns an ill-conceived scheme to steal a rare coin into a triumph of dramatic art. In a junk shop, three men of different generations plan their heist. But their fates, like the nickel’s worn image of the beleaguered buffalo, may have been sealed long ago. A play which actually improves with use . . . [revealing] more of itself, shifted, modulated, grown. And that, for me, is a powerful symptom of the theatrical masterpiece. – The New York Times DECEMBER 10-13, 2015 Jane Eyre by Charlotte Brontë, Adapted by Christina Calvit Starring Jared Harris | Directed by Marsha Mason Charlotte Brontë’s landmark novel is brought to life in this illuminating adaptation by Christina Calvit. Orphaned Jane journeys from a harsh childhood to become the loving caregiver of a child at the mysterious manor of Mr. Rochester (Jared Harris). Jane is drawn to her enigmatic employer, but as dark secrets emerge, she must choose between her newfound security and the uncertainty of a life lived for oneself. A Jane Eyre that streamlines the complicated plot while still providing compelling glimpses of the psychological demons and moral deformities haunting its lovers. – Chicago Tribune JANUARY 28-31, 2016 The Money Shot Written and Directed by Neil LaBute Starring Jenna Fischer, Gia Crovatin, and Jennifer Westfeldt Desperate times call for desperate measures, and for aging Hollywood stars Karen (Jennifer Westfeldt) and Steve that means agreeing to a shocking contractual clause. On the eve of a “climactic” day of shooting, they finally tell their significant others (Jenna Fischer, Gia Crovatin) what’s to come. But what choice do they have? After all, their careers need stimulation! An insightful, bloodletting Hollywood satire. – The New York Times MARCH 10-13, 2016 Fathers and Sons by Brian Friel, from the novel by Ivan Turgenev | Directed by Martin Jarvis Starring Alfred Molina, Hector Elizondo, Ben Feldman, and Reid Scott The epic sweep of Turgenev’s 19th century literary masterpiece is brought to the stage by one of Ireland’s greatest living dramatists. Fathers and Sons captures the ongoing clash of generations and philosophies. Set in a Russian country estate, Friel’s powerful and resonant adaptation examines the inevitable conflict between the urgency of youth and the entrenchment of age. When Brian Friel is on song I can think of no living dramatist who can outclass him, and precious few who can match him. – London Telegraph APRIL 14-17, 2016 As You Like It by William Shakespeare | Directed by Barry Creyton Starring James Marsters and Emily Bergl Love triumphs in As You Like It, Shakespeare’s joyous comic adventure! Rosalind, arguably Shakespeare’s greatest female character, is banished from court and follows her exiled father into the untamed Forest of Arden. Disguised as a man for safety, Rosalind’s great wit and good nature show through her male trappings as she engages with fools and philosophers adrift in the woods, and ultimately falls in love. As You Like It is Rosalind’s play as Hamlet is Hamlet’s. She alone joins Hamlet and Falstaff as absolute in wit and of the three she alone knows balance and proportion in living and is capable of achieving harmony. – Harold Bloom, literary critic MAY 19-22, 2016 The Mountaintop by Katori Hall On April 4, 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated outside of his room at the Lorraine Motel in Memphis. What happened inside room 306 on the evening of April 3 is the subject of Katori Hall’s The Mountaintop. Hours after King’s final speech, punctuated by his immortal line, “I’ve been to the mountaintop,” the celebrated Reverend forms an unlikely friendship with a motel maid as they talk into the early hours of what will be his final day. It is a relationship that is breathtaking, hilarious and heart-stopping. – The Independent, London JUNE 23-26, 2016 God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton | Directed by Rosalind Ayres Starring Geoffrey Arend and Christina Hendricks Winner of the 2009 Tony Award®, God of Carnage is a brash and hilarious exploration of human nature. After one 11-year-old is hit by another, their parents meet to find a mature resolution. As the evening wears on, the veneer of civility degenerates. What begins as protective parenting ends as an excuse to let loose the primordial beast buried in each of us. A study in the tension between civilized surface and savage instinct, this play is itself a satisfyingly primitive entertainment with an intellectual veneer. – The New York Times JULY 14-17, 2016 T.B.A. Stay tuned for the announcement of our season finale.
