Thanks to financial contributions from American Electric Power and the Montgomery
Foundation, the port authority is launching a three tier, direct mail marketing campaign to
food processing and beverage production related companies. Coshocton and Knox
Counties are partnering to promote assets in both communities which should be of
interest to these types of companies.
Coshocton has an estimated 11 million gallons of daily excess municipal water while
Mount Vernon has a licensed, former Nestle baby formula manufacturing facility available
for new occupants. Hasseman Marketing of Coshocton is scheduled to launch the
campaign in mid-January with it concluding in early February.
The port authority also hopes to partner with Licking, Knox, and Muskingum Counties to
initiate an expanded four-county promotion effort that will pitch the common assets of
those communities including rail, highway, workforce, and other features. The effort is
expected to cost $50,000 with $35,000 having already been raised in Licking and
Muskingum Counties. The Coshocton Port Authority recently appealed to financial
institutions in Coshocton County hoping to receive financial support.

CROWN DEPARTS BOARD, SIMPSON STEPS IN
Coshocton resident and Coshocton Grain Company CEO, Rhoda Crown
completed a four-year term as a member of the port authority's board of directors last month. Rhoda's leadership was very valuable to the organization
and her contributions are well documented. She had occupied one of two
seats which are appointed by the mayor of Coshocton and confirmed by city
council. Mayor Steve Mercer has nominated Mr. Robert Simpson to fill the
vacancy and his appointment is pending confirmation by Coshocton City
Council. Mr. Simpson has been active in the chamber of
commerce's community development council.
COLUMBUS - PITTSBURGH CORRIDOR COMMITTEE ORGANIZED
Executive Director T.J. Justice is presently serving in an interim role to co-chair the recently established Columbus Pittsburgh Corridor Steering Committee which includes two individuals being appointed by county commissioners in
Franklin, Licking, Muskingum, Coshocton, Tuscarawas, Harrison, and Belmont Counties. Justice, who resides in West
Lafayette, and American Electric Power representative Paul Prater of Coshocton have been appointed by the Coshocton
County Commissioners to serve on the committee.
Prater and Justice joined Senator Joy Padgett, Senator Jason Wilson, and Congressman Zach Space's district director
in a meeting with Gov. Strickland chief of staff John Haseley last month in the Statehouse regarding the corridor. Each
of the remaining four sections between Columbus and Steubenville, including the two lane stretch of Ohio 16 in Coshocton and Muskingum Counties, have had development activities come to a halt. The group asked Haseley to resume development of each section so that the engineering can be completed when construction funds become available.
Haseley was engaged in the matter and promised to come back with a response after looking into the matter.
The corridor committee most recently met in January at the Hampton Inn located on U.S. 36 at I-77 in Newcomerstown.

Organic Technologies, Inc., a locally owned manufacturer
of food and pharmaceutical ingredients, has executed a
purchase agreement to acquire the former JII Publications
building at 545 Walnut Street in Coshocton. Empty since
2004, it appears the downtown area structure is on the
verge of being revitalized.

NEW INDUSTRIAL PARK— PROPERTY AVAILABLE AT WEST LAFAYETTE
West Lafayette – Up to 205 acres of privately owned land near West Lafayette is now available for economic development. This
land meets all the criteria including the availability of municipal water and sewer, gas, electric, and high speed internet service. It’s
flat with no trees or other natural resources that drive costs up to build a plant on” said T.J. The proximity to I-77 and U.S. 36 is an
enormous advantage. For more information on this property and other availability call T.J. Justice at 740-622-7005. The Port
Authority is also exploring properties in the city of Coshocton and Tuscarawas Township for potential ownership or marketing.
CNC TRAINING COMES TO COSHOCTON
With the advancement of new technology, the need for
higher skilled workers in manufacturing has become a
necessity for company growth and advancement. The
manufacturing industry will see the need for this
higher skilled workforce to remain competitive and
thrive economically. A higher skilled workforce is a
benefit for economic development and potential new
industry locating in Coshocton.
The WC Career Center
has invested over $100K in CNC Training Equipment to
train CNC (Computer Numeric Controllers) Operators and
Programmers to answer this search of higher skilled
workers. Operators are trained in as little as 5
weeks and programmers 7 weeks. Your company no longer
has to send employees out of the area, or away from
their job to get the needed CNC training. Call 1-800648-3695 to discuss CNC training opportunities. The
Mid-Ohio Valley Maintenance Council will get a first
hand look at this equipment at the next Mid-Ohio
Valley Maintenance Council Meeting on January 25th.
This special meeting co-hosted by Coshocton County
Port Authority, will be held at the Coshocton Armory
on Airport Road at 3:00 p.m. and is open to all new
Maintenance Council Members. The Maintenance Council
members will also be discussing, in detail maintenance
training classes available in Coshocton beginning
February 2008. If you are not already a member of the
Mid-Ohio Valley Maintenance Council, call 1-800-6483695 or 740-704-2187 for details. There are no
membership fees to become a member of the MOVMC and no
meetings to attend.
