Winter - Construction

Winter
Music, Rhymes and Fingerplays
I’m a Little Snowman
(Tune: “I'm a Little Teapot”)
Chubby Little Snowman
I'm a little snowman, round and fat.
(hold hands out to show "chubby")
Had a carrot nose. (point to nose)
Along came a bunny, (hop like a bunny)
(hold arms out for “fat”)
Here are my buttons, (pretend to touch)
Here is my hat. (touch head)
When the sun comes out, I run away
(run on the spot)
Before I slowly melt away!
(shrink down to ground)
Snowy Pokey
A chubby little snowman,
And what do you suppose?
(shrug shoulders; hold out hands, as if to question)
That hungry little bunny, (rub stomach)
Looking for his lunch. (hold hand above eyes)
Ate that snowman's carrot nose, (pretend to eat)
With a nibble, nibble, crunch!!
(Tune: “Hokey Pokey”)
Jack Frost
You put your right mitten in,
You take your right mitten out,
You put your right mitten in
And you shake it all about.
You do the snowy pokey
And you turn yourself around.
That's what it's all about.
Where did you get that little red nose?
Jack Frost kissed it I suppose.
He kissed it once. He kissed it twice.
Poor little nose is as cold as ice!

Five Little Snowmen (1)
Five little snowmen standing round my door,
This one melted, then there were four.
Four little snowmen beneath a green tree,
This one melted, then there were three.
Three little snowmen whose mittens are all blue,
This one melted, then there were two.
Two little snowmen standing in the sun,
This one melted, then there was one.
One little snowman wanted to run,
But he melted and then there were none.
Snowball
I made myself a snowball as perfect as could be.
(pretend to make ball)
I thought I'd keep it as a pet,
And let it sleep with me. (pretend to sleep)
I made it some pajamas and a pillow for its head.
Then last night it ran away,
But first - it wet the bed! (look surprised)
Winter Sky (add actions)
Way up high in the winter sky,
Two little snowflakes caught my eye.
Down to the ground they fell without a sound,
And before very long it was snowing all around.
Winter Fingerplay
Climb, climb, climb - up the hill of snow.
(fingers walk up your arm or bent leg)
Jump on our sleds - down we go. Weeee!
(fingers slide down your arm or leg)
More Winter Songs and Rhymes
Peter Penguin
Cloudy Day
Peter, Peter Penguin, marching by, (march)
Toes turned out and head held high.
The day is cloudy and the wind is bold.
Dress up warmly, you mustn't get cold!
Put on your coat and zip it up tight,
Put on your left boot, put on your right.
Put on your scarf and put on your hat,
Put on your mittens and clap-clap-clap!
(stand tall)
A long black coat (point to pretend coat)
And a clean white vest (rub chest)
Peter, Peter Penguin, you're the best.
(do Tony Tiger “they’re great” gesture)
Mittens on My Hands
(Tune: “Wheels on the Bus”)
The mittens on my hands keep me warm,
Keep me warm, keep me warm.
The mittens on my hands keep me warm,
All winter long!
Go outside and play and play.
Come in again, and then we'll sayTake off your coat that was zipped up tight,
Take off your left boot, take off your right.
Take off your scarf, take off your hat,
Take off your mittens, and then take a nap!
Make a Snowman
Continue with:
Start with a very tiny ball
Roll it through the snow
Over and over again,
Each turn makes it grow.
Winter Time Poem
Now the ball is big and round,
Make it broad and tall.
Add a head and then some arms,
Firm so they won’t fall.
Boots on my feet
Hat on my head
Scarf ‘round my neck
Icy fingers, icy toes,
(wiggle fingers; point to toes)
Bright red cheeks and bright red nose.
(point to cheeks and nose)
Watch the snowflakes as they fall,
(wiggle fingers in the air like falling snow)
Try so hard to count them all.
Build a snowman way up high,
Here are some buttons for his coat
A broom for him to hold.
Let’s put a hat upon his head,
So he won’t get too cold!
(point up at the ceiling)
Five Little Snowmen (2)
(reach as high as you can)
Five little snowmen standing in a row.
Each had two eyes and a carrot nose.
Along came the sun and shone all day,
And one little snowman melted away!
See if he can touch the sky.
Slip and slide and skate so fast.
Wintertime is here at last.
Continue counting down until snowman “1” melts
away.
