Memorials can serve as historical record. However, they can provide so
much more. Memorials can tell the story of life. A persons treasured
memories, celebrated moments and passion for life can personalize their
memorial. You can express the gift of their life through symbolism,
written word and design. Technology today offers many more options
at no additional cost.

Your First Step is Reflection
How we live and love is what matters most in life. We want to make
sure you understand your memorial options. You control the creative
process and determine what memories you want to express and the story
you want to tell. This creative process can be very simple and meaningful.
The “Legacy Creative Guide” is designed to help you reflect and
remember all eight aspects of life and discover what is most important.
Focus in on the gifts and memories you want to express. Your Authorized
Memorial Counselor will then guide you through the collaborative process
of creating a meaningful memorial.

Faith is the central foundation to most peoples lives. Faith
can provide core principals, values and the key belief that
our loved ones are in a better place. Faith can provide the
strength and understanding of grief and loss. You have the
option to express faith on the memorial through the use of
symbols or creative writing.
Symbols
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.

Our work in life can be very rewarding and important. Our
work can often define us and our contribution to our family
and others. Expressing the story of work is usually done
easiest through the use of symbols.

Footprints
in the sand
One night I had a dream. I was
walking along the beach with the
Lord; and across the skies flashed
scenes from my life. In each scene
I noticed two sets of footprints in the
sand. One was mine, and one was the
Lord's. When the last scene of my life
appeared before me, I looked back at the
footprints in the sand, and, to my surprise,
I noticed that many times along the path
of my life there was only one set of footprints. And I noticed that it was at
the lowest and saddest times in my
life. I asked the Lord about it:
"Lord, you said that once I
decided to follow you, you
would walk with me all
the way. But I notice
that during the most
troublesome times in
my life there is only one
set of footprints. I don't
understand why you
left my side when I
needed you most." The
Lord said: "My precious
child, I never left you
during your time of
trial. Where you see
only one set of footprints, I was carrying you."
You can express the most treasured and memorable moments
on the memorial. The special times, such as a wedding
anniversary, help express your story and journey in life.

Character
and
Traits
Memories of our loved ones are a gift and an inspiration
to us. Their personality and character make them unique
and special. Expressing our loved ones personality
requires creativity; you could take a line from their
favorite song, a favorite expression, quote from scripture
or a personal hand written poem.

Our family heritage tells the story of our history and
where we came from. Your families heritage can be
expressed through genealogy or ethnic symbolism.
One of the most common ways to express genealogy
is having the children’s names included on the memorial.

Idea Area, Reflections, Sketches and Notes
Please use the below area as your canvas. Feel free to write yourself important notes or any
creative ideas. You are even welcome to sketch. The most important point is that this “Legacy
Creative Guide” is a tool to help you remember and reflect. We want to make sure you don’t
forget something important. The process should be rewarding and meaningful. Also, begin to
think about color, taste, shape, and style. For example: Red might be a favorite color and a
granite color to choose for the memorial, or you would like a bench part of the design, or
statue, or vases, etc...
