LIVING OUR FAITH
A Message from the Pastor
Dear Friends,
Welcome to Sister Emiliana Moshi:
Sister comes to us originally from Tanzania. Her order is principally concerned with health care, but they also
care for orphans. They are currently building an orphanage in Arusha, Tanzania. We want to help her as mush as
we can. I visited her community while in Moshi and what a joyful group of dedicated sisters!
Canonization of Two Popes:
Today in Rome Pope Francis will officially canonize two previous Popes; Pope John II and Pope John XXIII. I am
privileged to be in attendance at that special Mass. I will have all your written prayer request with me and will offer Sunday mass for all our Christ the King parishioners. Remember St John Paul II stepped foot in our parish in
1979 who he visited Iowa. When he landed at the Des Moines airport, he was in our parish, the first parish he
stepped foot in west of the Mississippi. We have in our vestibule the only statue of Pope John II in Iowa. Let us
then seek his intercession for our parish and family meals.
Healing Mass-First Friday:
Remember our monthly First Friday Healing Mass this week at 7:00 pm , May 2. Come to receive the sacrament
of the Anointing of the Sick, or receive the other blessings for healing, or come to pray for a person in need of
healing.
Stewardship
Reflections:
“Lord, teach me to be generous,
Teach me to serve you as you deserve,
To give and not to count the cost,
To fight and not to head the wounds,
To toil and not to seek for rest,
To labor and not to ask for any reward
Save that of knowing that I do your will.

Volunteer to be a communion minister at a hospital
We need communion ministers for the Methodist, Lutheran,
Blank, Methodist West, and Broadlawns Hospitals. In most
cases, we can work around your schedule. Please consider
bringing "Jesus" to the patients in need. You will be trained
before you start and supported through your ministry. This is a
very important ministry that can use your help. You need not
have been a Eucharistic minister before this. If you have any
interest, contact Fr. Mike McLaughlin at 515-681-1746 or
[email protected] OR Alyce Conley at [email protected]. Please help us if you can, including in your
prayers. Thank you in advance.

Hospital visit
Just a reminder, if you have a family member or
know of anyone in the hospital or nursing facility,
please contact the parish office at 515-285-2888
and let Michelle know. It is so important that our
parishioners receive the Holy Eucharist and/or a
visit from Msgr. Bognanno or one of the Deacons.
The Vocations Chalice is given each weekend to parishioners who have agreed to receive it and to pray for vocations
during the week. Thank You!

Successful blood drive
Thanks to all who participated in the Knights of Columbus
blood drive on April 12th. Twenty-eight people registered,
twenty-one individuals gave whole blood, two people gave
double reds and there was a first time donor.
After separating the blood into components, these donations
help save the life of sixty-five patients.
We look forward to our next drive on October, 25, 2014.
Hope to see you there.
