Kingsport City Schools
Resolution
Whereas, Many leaders profess to hold a commitment to education, but the actions of only a few individuals
result in true educational progress. Lieutenant Governor Ron Ramsey is one of Kingsport’s and Tennessee’s true
educational trustees, and
Whereas, Ron has served in the Tennessee General Assembly since 1992, representing the citizens of
Sullivan County as a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives and the Tennessee Senate, winning seven terms
as a legislator, and
Whereas, Lieutenant Governor Ramsey became the first Republican elected to serve as the Speaker of the
Senate in 140 years, and
Whereas, his tenure includes the recognition of being the longest serving Republican Lieutenant Governor in
Tennessee state history, and
Whereas, during his time as Lieutenant Governor, Ron helped lead the efforts to reform public education in
Tennessee, resulting in Tennessee being named the fastest-improving state in the nation by the National Assessment of
Educational Progress (NAEP), commonly known as the Nation’s Report Card, and
Whereas, through his support and during his tenure as a Tennessee state legislator, Kingsport City Schools
has been consistently recognized as one of the top school systems in the United States by organizations such as U.S. News
and World Report, Newsweek Magazine, the College Board, and the Tennessee Center for Performance Excellence, and
Whereas, during his tenure as Lieutenant Governor, Kingsport City Schools was recognized by the
Tennessee State Collaborative on Reforming Education as the top school district in Tennessee.
Now, Therefore, be it resolved by the Kingsport Board of Education, that the Board deems it appropriate
to honor Ronald Lynn “Ron” Ramsey in celebration of his service as a member of the Tennessee General Assembly and
recognizes his work as an educational trustee in Kingsport.
