Rookery House part of Rookery Hove Outcomes The following reflects outcomes and progress of current and recent service users. Rookery House is a setting for adults with ASC. Service users follow individual programmes according to their needs and interests. These programmes include therapeutic, social, education, and exercise related activities. Service User 1 04/04/11-current Referred from psychiatric care following mental breakdown. Since arriving at Rookery House has engaged with a full creative/sport and therapeutic programme and started attending college part-time. Medication has been reviewed and reduced enabling service user to participate more actively during in-house and community activities. Service User 2 01/09/10-current Referred from Secondary Special School for students with ASC. Since moving to Rookery House has engaged in full academic and independence skill programme. Has completed Level 1 animal Care course and currently attending Work Preparation on a farm and Voluntary work with animals as part of Gold Duke of Edinburgh’s Award. Recently moved to a step-down house with increased independence. Service User 3 10/08/09-current Referred from social services after serving custodial sentence. Since moving to Rookery House has attended part-time courses at college to work on functional skills. Also attended work preparation and recently began supported work experience in a local business. Service User 4 17/06/10-current Referred from Social Services after serving custodial sentence. Since moving to Rookery House has found work experience in an animal rescue centre and has moved into selfcontained flat within the main house. Confidence has increased along with increased interaction with peers and community participation. Able to travel independently, manage finances and complete independent living skills with some guidance. Planning to move to supported flat closer to family in near future. Service User 5 26/11/10-current Referred from health and social services needing a high level of support for physical health condition. All staff trained to administer emergency medication if necessary. Service user has completed work experience in transport related industries, is actively involved in advocacy for adults with disabilities and gives presentations at conferences about living with Asperger Syndrome. Recently moved to a step-down annex with increased independence and planning to move to a house with support to be closer to family and friends in the near future. Service User 6 13/08/10-current Referred from local 6th Form College for students with ASC. On arrival was unable to access community independently due to high anxiety. Currently lives in satellite house with high level of independence. Has part-time paid work in local supermarket and travels independently where possible to creative/sport and social activities. Service User 7 09/01/12-current Referred from secure psychiatric setting. Since arrival at Rookery House has been supported to move into a self-contained flat within the main building where service user can be assisted to work on independence skills. Also accesses a woodwork project with other adults with mental health problems and has produced a CD of own music with music tutor. Has also developed strong and positive peer friendships and is supported to participate in group activities in house and in the community. Service User 8 28/07/10-current Referred from secure psychiatric setting. Service user extremely anxious in unfamiliar settings on arrival. Since arrival service user received therapeutic and psychiatric support with significant increase in self esteem and confidence. Service user can now access community with support and attends part-time courses at local 6th form college for students with AS and local mainstream college. Service User 9 05/01/10 -11/07/12 Referred from social services with a history of drug use and poor attainment. During placement at Rookery House has received therapeutic input and support to access college course in IT. Significant increase in self esteem and confidence enabling service user to move to step down house and demonstrate greater levels of independence and self-control. Left to live in supported flat and continue education closer to family and friends. Service User 10 10/07/10-01/06/12 Referred from foster care by social services. Supported to work on independence skills and anger management. Attended college course and work experience with large animals. Moved to step down house and then to supported flat in the community. Service User 11 24/07/10-03/01/12 Referred from foster care by social services. Supported to attend college and produce quality craft work for exhibition and sale. Also participated in relationship therapy and worked on independence skills while in step down house prior to moving into supported flat in local town centre. Service User 12 27/07/11-15/03/12 Referred from local 6th Form College for students with AS. Presented with high anxiety. Received therapeutic and psychiatric input and support with independence skills in step down annex to Rookery House. Marked increase in confidence and self-esteem. Accepted on employment programme with local council in partnership with Further Education College and currently on paid apprenticeship as Admin Assistant. Service User 13 31/08/09-18/07/11 Referred from probation service. Supported to attend college full-time and to work on independence and social skills. Moved to step down house prior to transition to flat in local town.
