As you would be aware 2013 is a special one for us as we celebrate
our 20 year anniversary of providing programs in the Illawarra region.
We look forward to a year which promises to be one of our most
exciting ones as we introduce new programs, make changes to
existing ones and try to create new and exciting experiences for all
participants.
Once again we will be conducting the parent and participant
representative committees. These are a great avenue for all those
who access our programs the opportunity to pass on information
about the programs you receive and how we can improve them.

4 Fun - New Program
The new Swim 4 Fun program has commenced on Wednesday
Nights and has been a great success. Participants who attend this
program are learning water safety and doing fit & fun games in
the pool each week.
“We are delighted to partnership with The Disability Trust in this
important water safety and aquatic exercise program.
This program is very successful enabling many young people with
special needs the opportunity to enjoy all the benefits exercising in
water can offer from increased fitness and a cardiovascular
workout through to social development and increased self esteem.
Additionally, all the participants are developing increased
competence and confidence in their swimming and water safety
skills.” - Susie McKeon (McKeon Swim School)

Term 1 has been a great term. Students have
been learning and practicing their skills in
Gymnastics by walking on balancing beams
and leaping into hoops. Students have also
been practicing their skills in athletics
including relay races, long jump, hurdles, high
jump and egg and spoon races. Students will
also have the opportunity to participate in
activities to enhance their skills in basketball
and cricket before the term ends.
On behalf of Sport and Recreation Services
we would like to express our gratitude to
Balgownie Public School who raised $700 for
BlueScope Sports Ready. We were able to
buy a balancing beam and a giant rainbow
tunnel for our participants which have been a
huge hit in our program.

BlueScope Steel
for their ongoing
support towards the
program. Without their
support the program
would not be as
successful as it is today.
Thank you to all our participants in the
BlueScope Steel Sports Ready program.
Keep up the great work! Lastly, thank you to
BlueScope Steel for their ongoing support as
they have assisted Sports Ready to be a
great success.

‘THE ALL PINS’ TEN PIN BOWLING – Dunn & Lewis Centre
The excitement on Tuesday nights at Dunn & Lewis Centre continues with a
total of 20 players. The program is now at maximum capacity – we recently
welcomed back John and welcomed newest player Jessica.
Important information regarding wet weather – if grounds are closed due
to very wet weather, all players/carers will receive an SMS stating that
soccer is cancelled. At times it may be raining in one area and not at South
Nowra so it could be confusing as to what to do.
Should you / your child not be attending for any reason, please SMS Susan
on Friday or before 8am on Saturday on 0401002372, so that staffing may
be adjusted.
FIT N FUN - Ulladulla Leisure Centre.
All gym participants are working hard in the gym, achieving goals along the
way.
FIT N FUN – Bay & Basin
On Wednesdays participants enjoy being part of the
busy gym environment. Welcome to Zak and Curtis,
both doing so well in the program and are also
attending on Fridays, along with David. The Friday
Fit n Fun commenced recently from 4.00pm.
Welcome back to Andrew. We also welcome
Patrick, who will be supervising at the Friday
program, and a big thanks to Jonno, who got the
program up and running and is leaving us for full
time work.
LEISURE LINK The Adult Leisure Link program recently enjoyed a
weekend away in Canberra, where we visited
Questacon, Cockington Green, and on a balmy
Saturday night relaxing beside the lake watching
‘Enlighten’ lights across the water. Meanwhile the
School program group was not daunted by a drizzly
weekend at Berry Sport & Rec with an action
packed weekend braving the two storey high flying
fox, climbing wall & ropes, archery and damper
making around the campfire.

WHITE KNIGHTS FC - NATIONALS 2013
Congratulations to all the participants who went to Canberra in January to represent White
Knights FC (Southern NSW) at the National Championships. The team performed extremely
well throughout the week and went through to the final undefeated. In the final they played
Queensland. The scores were tied at full time of the final but circumstances got the better of
the team and they eventually went down 3 - 0. We were very proud of all the players in the
way they conducted themselves on and off the court during the week and they were a credit
to their families and The Disability Trust.
In the past 3 years this team has won 2 National Championships, 2nd place at National
once, 1 NSW Title and 2nd place at NSW titles twice. A record any team would be proud of.
