Per Capita Funding Policy

Per Capita
Funding Policy
Per Capita accepts funding on the basis that no contribution shall confer on the donor
any right of ownership or editorial control over Per Capita’s research or publications.
In order to ensure its ongoing independence, Per Capita has established diverse
sources of funding, including individual supporters who donate in various amounts,
philanthropic funding, support from unions and corporations, and sponsorship in cash
and in kind from organisations and individuals.
Fundraising events, including public symposia and private events, provide an
additional income stream.
Per Capita does not charge for membership but does occasionally appeal to members
to support specific projects and activities via direct donation.
Per Capita is endorsed as a Deductible Gift Recipient and an Approved Research
Institute under subdivision 30-BA of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997.
Donations
Per Capita accepts untied donations from individuals and organisations whose public
positions and behaviour align with Per Capita’s values.
Per Capita accepts tied donations to support specific work, including particular
research programs, issues papers, policy papers, and social innovation projects.
Donors will be acknowledged in publications that they have directly supported.
Donors may be consulted on the development of research or social innovation
projects, and may be given the opportunity to provide feedback on draft publications,
but final editorial control of all Per Capita’s publications will remain with Per Capita.
Donors are not able to exercise a veto over any Per Capita publication.
Per Capita does not accept tied donations with the sole intention of lobbying on behalf
of a third party or policy position not developed through Per Capita’s research and
policy development work.
Sponsorship
Per Capita accepts sponsorship for events, outreach activities including the Young
Writers’ Prize, fellowships, and internships. Naming rights are not offered to sponsors.
Sponsors cannot dictate the content of speeches or papers presented at events they
have supported, but may be invited to participate as speakers.
Commissioned work
Per Capita accepts commissioned work, in research, policy development and advice
and public or media appearances, providing that work aligns with Per Capita’s
research policy and values.
Any intellectual property generated through commissioned work is retained by Per
Capita, and Per Capita retains the right to republish commissioned work on its
website.
Commissioning bodies or individuals will be consulted on the development of research
or policy development, but complete editorial control over any resulting publications
remains with Per Capita.
Advertising
Per Capita does not accept advertising in its publications or on its website.
Editorial independence
No financial support of Per Capita shall confer on the supporter the power to approve,
influence or veto any Per Capita research or publication.
Funding Transparency
All donations in excess of $100 per annum will be publicly acknowledged on Per
Capita’s website, with the exception of individual donors who wish to remain
anonymous for reasons of privacy.
All sponsorships will be acknowledged in the relevant publication or at the sponsored
event.
All commissioned work will include acknowledgement of the commissioning body or
individual in the relevant publication or public appearance.
