HOST A DRIVE
BLESS A FAMILY
Help collect items for specific Mission ministries and programs.*
Donations bins are available upon request.
Similar to Angel Tree, our families-in-need are
adopted during the holidays. We connect each
family-in-need with a group or family who want to
bless them. We then provide a suggested list of
items to best meet their needs.
The Academy* (Men - serving 90+ residents)
Towels, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hygiene items, deodorant,
shampoo, men’s gloves (100), sweatshirts and sweatpants
(S-4XL).
For more information, contact Rev. Bud Searcy,
Academy Director, at (559) 268-0839, Ext 115
[email protected]
Rescue the Children* (Women and children - serving 30+
women and 60+ children)
Kids: Pajamas, unwrapped toys, teen bibles and teen-jewelry.
For Rescue the Children Holiday Needs:
Contact Allie Torres at (559) 227-2190, Ext 109
[email protected]
Women: Pajamas, gift cards to purchase undergarment, new
make-up, lotions, small over-the-shoulder hand bags.
THE CBS47 COLLECTION DRIVE
The Fresno Rescue Mission is partnering with CBS47 to collect food
and other donations from the community. Join us on Wednesday,
December 9th in the station’s parking lot: 5035 E McKinley Ave (corner
of McKinley and Gateway). The food drive starts at five in the morning
and goes until seven o’clock at night.

From the Director
My Dear Friends,
THANK YOU! Thank you for investing in the lives of the
people we serve; for prayerfully and financially supporting
our diverse ministries, for celebrating with us as we
graduated 51 of our program men and women, highlighting
their victories in Christ during our Fall Celebration Banquet,
and for building excitement with us as we prepare for the
upcoming holiday festivities. We have so many reasons to
celebrate, to say thank you and to prepare great feasts. My
favorite reason of all: The opportunities we have to praise
the Lord together because He is so GOOD!
Join us! Share the joys of the seasons with everyone the
Lord puts in your path and on your heart. Let us know the
difference Christ is making in your life and the victories you
are experiencing as you live for Him each and every day.
The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all. Praise the Lord,
you his angels, you mighty ones who do his bidding,
who obey his word. Praise the Lord, all his heavenly
hosts, you his servants who do his will. Praise the Lord,
all his works everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, my soul.
Thank you for all you do for your neighbors-in-need.
Happy Thanksgiving!

A Day-in-the-Life of “Rescue”
“Lots of agencies call us during the week,” says Richard
Lopez, a Community Care Provider with the Mission’s
24-Hour Emergency Services department. “Together, we
share the burden, helping people in unique, emergency
situations: a veteran with a leg amputation needing
assistance, but not knowing where to start; a mother and
father with 7 children who were displaced, and countless
individuals who are just scared and tired. We’re excited
when they choose to take a new step toward a better life.”
Each day there are new stories, new faces and new
challenges being met by the staff of the Fresno Rescue
Mission. We thought it would be interesting to take a
one-day snapshot of the people we met and report on
the mood within these departments. The day we chose
to capture the data (Friday, October 30th) was telling.
Food Services
914 meals served
“The people who came to us off the streets were calm,” said
Dewayne Martin, Food Services Director. “Our people seemed
relaxed while they ate. There were no incidents reported. It
was near the end of the month, so numbers are always high.”
24-Hour Emergency Services with Case Management
3 men and 1 woman under our care in Fresno Medical Respite.
8 men under our care in Case Management
3 men came to us overnight.
Over 100 calls for services: food, housing, overnight help,
seeking programs, needing clothing and shoes.
6 walk-ins, seeking a program. Three came by themselves,
the rest came with family members. Most didn’t stay. They
needed more time to think about the commitment.
“Friday was a very busy day,” said Frankie Cervantes, Front
Desk Clerk. “At moments, it was intense. People call and pour
their life out to you. I try to calm them and comfort them the
best that I can before transferring their call to the appropriate
department. I’ve been there, so I understand the urgency, They
just need someone to hear them and to give them hope.”
The Academy 18-month program for men
117 men currently enrolled:
88 men living on site and 29 men in Aftercare
“The atmosphere is mixed,” shares Rev. Bud Searcy,
Academy Director. “We have a solid group of core men
who are positive and hopeful about their futures. At the
same time, we have an influx of new men, bringing with
them the shenanigans from the streets. For a while, there
was a gray cloud over the ministry. We lost 6 men because
they brought drugs on the premises. This is why we have
systems in place to guard against this and why we keep
this ministry bathed in prayer.”
Rescue the Children 18-month program for women,
and women with children
33 women currently enrolled;
24 children living on site, with
19 children visiting their moms on weekends.
“The internal atmosphere is safe and peaceful,” shares
Priscilla Robbins, Director of Rescue the Children. “The
women know that they are able to feel their emotions and
still be loved and guided.”
Fresno Rescue Mission Thrift Store & Cars
As we were piecing these snapshot details together, we
received word from staff that our Thrift Store suffered
catastrophic structural damage on November 2, 2015, making
the building unsafe to enter. We do not know, at this time, when
or where the store will reopen. We will keep you informed.
We will continue to pick up and receive donated items,
but we do not know when or from what temporary facility
this will take place. We will update this information on our
website and through media outlets when we have more news.
We apologize for the inconvenience. Please continue to pray for
our ministries and for the staff of the Thrift Store during this
sudden transition. We thank you in advance for your prayers, your patience and your continued support.

Responsible Stewardship
The Fresno Rescue Mission recently received
calls from two different donors offering to
donate some unimproved properties to the
Fresno Rescue Mission. In both cases, the
donors said they did not see any need for them
to hold onto the real estate and wondered if
we would like them. The policy of the Fresno
Rescue Mission is that, if we receive real
property, we in turn sell it and use the proceeds
for the ministries of the Mission.
We told each of these donors we would first
have to look at the property being offered
and consider a number of factors: were there
any liens or encumbrances on the property,
Don Eskes, Community Partnerships
were there any liabilities associated with the
property such as environmental issues or hazardous waste issues, determine
the approximate value of the property, and then determine if property itself was
salable. Once all these factors were considered, a decision was made whether or
not to accept the donation.
If accepted, we then obtained the deed and had a formal appraisal made of the
property to determine a value to report to the donor. Upon acquiring ownership,
the property was listed for sale.

TOURS/VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Tina Searcy - Volunteer and Events Coordinator
The benefit to these donors is that they get the tax benefits and they do not have
to bother with having to sell the property themselves. The obvious benefit to the
Fresno Rescue Mission is the income generated through the sale of the property.
You may have real estate (large or small) that could be used to further the
ministries of the Fresno Rescue Mission. We consider all types of donations such
as real property, personal property, insurance proceeds, legacy gifts, and of course,
outright financial donations. If you would like more information regarding any of
these, please contact Don Eskes: [email protected], (559) 268-0839, Ext 134.
