I am thrilled to be your teacher at Sunset Junior High! Through writing and
reading, our goal this year in English and Basic Writing is to become a
community of writers and readers who work together in an environment of
trust, respect, hard work, and fun as we learn and apply the habits of effective writers and readers.

Various writing genres
will be assigned. The

conclusions, etc. for
argumentative, informative/explanatory,
and narrative.
The focus will be on

Students are expected to read at least 50 pages per week. Students must have
a book in class EVERYDAY. Weekly and random book checks will be done.
Each book check will be worth 5 points. If a student does not have a reading
book in class at that time, a 0 will be given and those points cannot be made up.
Books must be grade appropriate.
Required Reading:
Students will be required to read one
book each term from
the following list.
These books will be
available in the school
library, or you may obtain your own copy.
“Books are a uniquely portable magic.”

After reading the book,
each student will fill out
the Independent Reading Graphic Organizer
and take a test on the
book (See me for
both).
