Sheet masks appear as the new trendy product of the cosmetic
industry. Unmissable in Asia, democratized in Europe and in the
Unite States by Sephora, L’Oréal, Dr Jart+ or Estée Lauder, they
attract more customers everyday.
More and more brands turn to the bio cellulose to make their
masks: a fabric coming from biotechnology, but which remains a
living material, difficult to manage and which has already led to
some sanitary scandals regarding manufacturing methods. In
particular, problems of mould, due to non-compliance with
hygiene and packaging rules.
At the forefront on the masks market in Europe and concerned
about offering the best quality to its customers, Lessonia has
audited the main bio cellulose’s suppliers of the market. This,
with the constant objective to control the whole production
chain.
What is bio cellulose: a 100% natural and biodegradable fabric, made of fine fibers of cellulose, produced by
microorganism during the coco water fermentation from which it is produced.
Results of the audit:
Among the multiple suppliers of bio cellulose located in Malaysia, Vietnam or Indonesia, it clearly appears
that they are not all capable to answer to the quality, hygiene and traceability cosmetic industry’s
requirements. The bio cellulose is sometimes produced in a ‘traditional’ way, that could without any surprise
explain the cause of moulds found in some masks. Hopefully, others pull out by boasting irreproachable
quality and manufacturing conditions. Lessonia has concluded a contract with 2 of those suppliers, especially
the producer of the biggest Korean cosmetic brands.

• Dry cellulose: brings the maximum of safety and enables to soak more actives.
