Welcome to December! It is a wonderful
time of year to be thankful for the memorable experiences we share as educators, working with
amazing children, parents and staff. At J.W. Oakley School we believe that when parents, school
staff, and community work together towards the
common goal of providing an exceptional education, students will achieve amazing things, and the
entire community will benefit.
We have had a great start to the school
year. With our new English Language Arts adoption we have ensured that our curriculum is
aligned with the Common Core State Standards.
To provide instructional support, our teachers
have benefited from the support of our Academic
Coaches. To further enhance our ELD program,
WestEd has provided our staff with researchbased tools, resources, services and ongoing professional development. Through support from the
San Diego Department of Education, teachers will
refine instructional practices that expand mathematical thinking and increase the conceptual understanding students bring to the math learning
process. As well as refining the mathematical
pedagogy which focuses on the development of
students' mathematical thinking.
Success Assembly, Red Ribbon Week, Cattle Call
Assembly and Student Recognition Assemblies.
Thanks to the generosity and support of our PTO,
our Halloween Carnival was a great success. We
are immensely grateful for the experiences and
support we are able to provide our students
through our PTO and our volunteers!
As we look ahead to
the second half of the
school year, we will continue to build on our successes and cultivate an environment that fosters student
learning. As a learning
community, we encourage
and welcome your ideas.
Let’s work together to give
our students memories and
experiences that will last
forever.
Sincerely,
Craig Casey,

Hello Everyone.
Our commitment at Miguel Hidalgo
School to challenge our students with a rigorous curriculum, high expectations, and a
challenging environment that will empower
our students to become innovative thinkers
and creative problem solvers continues to be
a top priority. Students are encouraged and
supported to do their very best in all aspects
of their educational experience.
Along with pushing our students to
have academic success, the staff here at Miguel Hidalgo School also strives to have our
students become good citizens and productive members of society. Students and Staff
alike reflect and practice the character traits
of Coach John Wooden’s Pyramid of Success: Hard work; Friendship; Loyalty; Cooperation; Enthusiasm; Self-Control; Alertness;
Action; Determination; Fitness; Skill; Team
Spirit; Poise; Confidence and Personal Best.
Miguel Hidalgo School Students are repeatedly encouraged to do their Personal Best on
everything that they do: Classwork; Homework; Recess Participation; Citizenship, etc.
We have built a 10 ft. tall Pyramid of Success
to remind our students and to show the community the good character traits of the Pyramid. During the first trimester, there was a
focus on Social Awareness and standing up
for what was right. Our Hidalgo Family observed Red Ribbon Week (drug awareness)
with different themes to involve the students
and staff: There was “Red Day”; Freedom
Day; Wacky Hair Day; Give the Boot to Drugs
Day; Spirit Day/Blue and Gold Day; and
Scare Drugs and Bullying Away Day with students dressing in costumes. Other days observed by our Hidalgo Family were National
School Attendance Awareness week (Staff
and Students dress as Super Heroes); National Bullying Awareness Day; National
Breast Cancer Awareness day/month. Needless to say, our school song for the first trimester was the classic children’s song
“DeColores.” A big thank you to our PTO for
supporting our school with a Fall Festival at
the end of October. Our trimester will end
with a Cattle Call/Veterans Day assembly.
As we come to the end of the 1st trimester, students are taking online math
benchmark assessments to provide data on
student performance. This data will be used
by our teachers working together in Professional Learning Communities to assist students with intervention and enrichment opportunities. We continue to look forward to our
student academic progress and parent support.
Sincerely,

Howdy Partners,
On behalf of the faculty, staff, and students of
Myron D. Witter, we would like to share some of the
exciting happenings at Myron D. Witter. Through a
strong spirit of teamwork; staff, parents, and community members continually strive to create an educational climate and culture of high expectations and
support for all students.
In order to prepare all students to be career
and college ready, our students are engaged in lessons that foster creativity and critical thinking as they
collaborate and communicate with their peers. As
lessons are delivered, teachers closely monitor student performance to ensure that a high level of rigor
and relevance are included in each lesson.
In addition to academics, we also focus on
developing positive character traits, effective communication skills, improved socialization skills and
discipline prevention strategies with our students.
Visual reminders are
placed throughout
campus of monthly
character traits,
awards and ceremonies, as well as procedures put in place
to promote a positive
school climate and
culture. In an effort to create greater communication
between home and school, we encourage all parents to register to use the Remind app so you may
conveniently receive text reminders and messages
regarding school events. Please contact our school
secretaries for information on how to register.
Throughout the school year, the staff at Myron D. Witter would like to invite our parents and
community members to continue to partner with us
in providing the very best learning opportunities for
our students. Parents
and community members are encouraged to
participate in school
sponsored events such
as; Beautification Days,
Read Across America
Day, Spelling Bee,
Lunch on the Lawn, Discovery Days, Assemblies,
Field Trips, Angel Chorus, Band, and Choral Performances, as well as fundraising activities for charitable organizations such as Jump Rope for Heart. We
ask that parents and community members stay up to
date with these activities and events at Myron D.
Witter by referring to our website, calendar, notices,
and the school marquee.
In closing, we would like to express our gratitude for the hard work and dedication of our certificated and classified staff as well as the ongoing support of our parents and community members! By
continuing to work together, we are confident we can
make this school year one of achievement, success,
and enjoyment for ALL of our Witter Wranglers!
Sincerely,

As parents, we fully understand the amazing
uniqueness of our children. We go above and beyond to provide them with the opportunities and resources they need to succeed. As the administrators of Phil D. Swing School, we can assure all parents that we view the education of our Panthers
through the same lens.
Phil Swing Team
works hard to treat our students as if they are our own
by providing them with the
opportunities, resources,
and individualized support
they need to succeed. We
are proud to offer before
and after school tutoring opportunities to support academic success and ensure
that struggling students receive a double dose of reading resources, use of
digital devices, and more personalized learning
with teachers.
Many capable children at all grade levels experience frustration and failure in school. It's not
because they lack ability, but because they do not
have adequate study skills. Good study habits and
knowing how to study effectively fosters feelings of
competence, develops positive attitudes, and helps
children realize they can control how well they do in
school and in life. Let’s continue to work together to
help them learn good study skills. Preferred learning styles vary from child to child. Children need to
discover how they learn best, work out a study system that fits their learning style, and use that system regularly. Let’s support our Panthers: 1. Make
doing homework a positive experience. 2. Make
homework a priority. 3. Use homework to teach organizational skills and 4. Provide and enforce logical and meaningful consequences.
In addition to the academic supports listed
above, we also maintain a strong and supportive
ASB and PTO group. These
stakeholders work very hard to
provide our students with extracurricular activities and incentives that support the positive school culture that Phil
Swing works hard to maintain.
