FAQ’s
When are the Tournaments? There are USAV/AAU/AJV Sand/GVCA beach tournaments
scheduled every weekend in months May-August. You can find our tournament schedule for the
2014 Junior Beach Club on our website @ www.laverniavolleyballclub.com.
Do you have to play in tournaments?
NO. You can sign up for the tournaments you would like to play in from the approved
tournament schedule you are provided with from the coach or located on our website. You play
all game long, every point of every game, all tournament long, and no subs. It’s fun and you’ll
want to play in more!!
Do I need to be a USAV and/or AAU member to play in tournaments?
YES. All athletes need to be USAV members. If you played indoor club volleyball this season,
you should already be a member. You need to also have an AAU membership to participate in
AAU events, valid for 1 year. These fees are not included in the program.
What is the playing format?
Typically pool play starts between 8 and 9am. Playoffs begin around 1 pm and are completed by
4 pm. They are usually pool play, followed by single bracket elimination, and get 3 game
minimum. Check every event website for details.
Will playing schedules be posted?
Yes. Schedules are typically posted the day before the event start or after the check in. You can
find out what court you play on and the time. Check every event website for details.
Are there officials for the tournaments?
No. Sand volleyball is self-officiated. The players work to agree with their opponents on calls or
to replay the rally. Players need to be familiar with the USAV Beach rules. We have put a
together a list of important rules to help out and can be found on our website. Plus, rules will
be covered as part of the program and in practices.
Can parents help with the officiating?
No. Parents cannot be near the courts. The players learn to officiate and make decisions with
their opponents. So parents, sit back and enjoy! Limited coaching for time-outs only.
How are beach and indoor different?
In beach you and your partner are in control of your game, calling your own time-outs, and
making all game decisions. You will learn all the rules, the ins and outs of running your own
game and much more at practice.
Do players wear uniforms?
Yes. We abide by the USA Volleyball competition regulations uniform policy. Partners should
wear the same color/style during tournaments. We provide our Junior Beach athletes with a
uniform package included in the program.
