Maestro Kim Allen Kluge

Johnny O. Sawyer was our speaker and his topic was “Defense Intelligence
Agency Today”. Joan Richardson’s introduction informed us that Johnny has
two master’s degrees and is the Director of the DIA Middle East and Africa Regional Center at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB).. At the start of his presentation Johnny showed us a short video (“We Are DIA”)that provided us a good
overview of this large and vital agency—over 15,000 personnel stationed around
the world, in 139 different countries, and with employees from and in all military
services. The DIA is meeting numerous challenges such as rapidly evolving
threats, meeting the demands of war, and providing the best intelligence possible
while “drowning” in intelligence related data. Recent financial austerity is forcing ever more integration of intelligence assets, such as in the directorate that he
heads where all assets for his region are integrated under the single manager for
the geographic region—a very good and beneficial integration. This was another
very interesting and timely presentation that helps us better understand the
changing world we are living in. Job well done to Johnny and Joan!
Nolan Forness’ Quote for Today. “When you finally go back to your old home,
you find it wasn’t the old home you missed but your childhood. (Sam Ewing)
When you go back to a Rotary meeting each week, you find that it was your
friends at Rotary that you missed.
