Rotary International District 7390 John Kramb, Governor 2015-2016 March 2016 Water & Sanitation Month Fellow Rotarians, When you brushed your teeth today, you used more clean water in that short time than 83% of the world gets in a month. Or a life time. It is easy for us Americans to take clean water for granted. Unless you live in Flint, you count on your tap water to be filtered of harmful microbes, bacteria, and sediment. We get clean, good-tasting water every time we turn on the tap. But imagine, if you will, having to go to a river or pond or lake to get your water. Water that has been used upstream for human and industrial waste. And that is all you have. Water that has pathogens. Filth. Excrement. Water that causes disease and poor physical and mental development in growing children. So then. We are Rotarians. What do we do? We can provide clean water throughout the world in the form of water filters and clean wells. But the task is large. And we can do more. Rotary has action groups centered around service. I encourage you to check out WASRAG. The Rotary Water and Sanitation Rotary Action Group. Their website is http://www.wasrag.org/. They have projects that you can join. Or your club can create its own clean water global grant. Maybe even use the District Governor's Global Grant Incentive. Rotarian James Good is our district's expert on this. You can reach him at [email protected], or dial 7741651. Providing clean water is a great way to be a gift to the world.
