Multiple Dimensions Measuring Device / VMS-530VDS Application: The three VMD500 laser heads are used to calculate the dimensions of cuboidal objects, right regular prisms (including tires and barrels), and irregular shaped objects in a dynamic (conveyor) scenario. Only opaque cuboidal objects and right regular prisms are allowed to touch. Objects may not be stacked. Printing is accomplished through network communication. Identification: The required information appears on an adhesive label on the side of the of the system controller housing and on the top of the VMD500 laser heads. Sealing: The device is sealed using a Category 1 physical seal. Two wire seals are required at opposite corners of the system controller housing. Each wire seal is threaded through two drilled head screws which are immediately adjacent to each other. Operation: The dynamic dimensioning system works with conveyor systems and reports the smallest cubic dimensions (length, width and height) of a cuboidal object, right regular prism (including tires and barrels), and irregular shaped object. Objects must be placed on their most stable side. Objects other than irregular shaped may be touching; the irregular shaped objects may only be placed singulated or non-singulated (side by side) with other objects on the belt. The objects must pass on the conveyor within the defined measurement area to be accepted by the system for dimensioning. Conveyor speed and deviation are measured by the tachometer. The MSC800 controller outputs the data via the serial or Ethernet ports. The system may include an optional display to show the dimension data or an error code in case an error condition exists for the last object scanned. Test Conditions: For the purpose of this test, three VMD500 heads, an MSC800 controller, a VMC800 controller, a display, and one tachometer were submitted for evaluation. The emphasis of the evaluation was on device design, marking, operation, performance, and compliance with influence factor requirements. Several measurements were performed at maximum, minimum, and near midrange for the ranges listed. The devices were tested over a temperature range of 0 C to 40 C (32 F to 104 F). Measurements were also conducted with power supplies of 100 VAC and 130 VAC. NOTE: This Certificate is issued as a provisional NTEP Certificate of Conformance (CC). This evaluation is based on the current draft checklist, procedures and technical policy contained in NCWM Publication 14 for this device type. When work on the NCWM Publication 14 section for this device is completed, the test report and this NTEP CC will be reviewed. If all current requirements have been met by this evaluation, the provisional status will be removed. Evaluated By: J. Morrison (OH) Type Evaluation Criteria Used: NIST Handbook 44 Specifications, Tolerances, and Other Technical Requirements for Weighing and Measuring Devices, 2015 Edition. NCWM Publication 14 Measuring Devices, 2014 Edition. Conclusion: The results of the evaluation and information provided by the manufacturer indicate the device complies with applicable requirements.
