“To bed, ‘tis almost fairy time” A Magical Midsummer Night’s Dream Produced and Performed by Ashton Vale Primary School TOBACCO FACTORY, BRISTOL 10th November 2015 Appraised by Moira Hunt Congratulations to the cast and crew of Ashton Vale Primary School on their wonderful production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at the Tobacco Factory. This was an accomplished and original production, and I’d like to highlight a few key elements which really stood out for me. It was full of truly magical moments. For example, when Titania laid down to sleep and her fairy band danced around her and sang a very atmospheric lullaby – beautiful. The final scene was particularly joyful as all of the characters gathered to watch Pyramus and Thisbe. The mechanicals were very entertaining and the actors watching the play were obviously enjoying it as much as we were - just brilliant! The whole cast used their voices beautifully. The audience heard and understood every word. I was very impressed. The production completely embraced the comedy throughout the story, particularly when Thisbe discovered the body of Pyramus in Ninus’ tomb – a truly hilarious moment! Finally, a big congratulations to the cast for working with such focus throughout the day. It was clear that they worked professionally as a team and that allowed you to tell us such an entertaining story. This production was magical, colourful and a joy to watch. A huge congratulations to all the cast and crew who made it happen. I hope to see Ashton Vale Primary School in the Festival again next year. Moira Hunt Shakespeare Schools Festival Venue Director
