UNIT 5 GRAMMAR
Pronouns
Pronouns are words that replace nouns or noun phrases. I, you, he, she,
it, me, him, and her are singular pronouns. We, you, they, us, and them are
plural pronouns. The singular pronoun I is always capitalized.
• Susan started the car, and Jenny and Pam hopped in.
• She parked it at the restaurant, and they went inside.
Possessive Pronouns show who or what owns something and take the
place of possessive nouns. My, your, his, her, and its are singular possessive
pronouns. Our, your, and their are plural possessive pronouns. Possessive
pronouns do not have an apostrophe.
• Is that Dawn’s new car? It looks like the Smiths’ car.
• Is that her new car? It looks like their car.
