For your convenience we are offering tri-fold boards for purchase. If you are interested in ordering a tri-fold board please check here and submit cash or check written to KES PTO for $5 with
your form.
Please send this form to main office with “Science Fair” written on envelope by February 10th.

How to Participate:
▪ KES Science Fair is open to all KES students, K-5!
▪ Choose a topic to research or a question to investigate. (Check out www.sciencebuddies.org
for project suggestions).
▪ Attend one of our optional after school informational sessions to get ideas and hear
about planning your project.
o See attached form - First info session December 20th
▪ Register to participate with attached form by February 10th.
▪ Notify the Science Fair committee of your project by February 17th. Restrictions on
projects/experiments may apply.
▪ Research your topic/question.
o Consider teaming up with a classmate from any grade!
o
If you’re experimenting for your research, make sure you have chosen a question that you
can test and a test and is measurable.
▪ Present your findings in a display that can be as simple as a poster or as complex as a
live experiment to accompany your poster.
o Make a freestanding tabletop poster or floor display.
o Tri-fold boards can be found at Staples or purchased from the Science Fair Committee for $5 each.
▪ Practice presenting your project and answering questions so you’ll be prepared for Science Fair night.
▪ Bring your project to the cafeteria by 4:30pm on Monday, February 27th.
▪ Invite your family and friends to the KES Science Fair 2017 on Monday, February
27th, from 5:30-7:30 PM (must be accompanied by a parent/guardian to attend, however you do not
have to attend the Science Fair to have your project displayed).
▪ Present your project to your family, friends, KES peers –- and the visiting scientists.
▪ Take your project home with you at the end of the Science Fair and clean up your area!
PARENTS: We will need some volunteer Visiting Scientists to view each project during the Science Fair and present
participation stickers. Please let us know if you are interested in getting involved

*Please pick up your children promptly at 4:45pm in the gym
Project Tri-Fold Boards will be available for purchase for $5 each (proceeds benefit the PTO)

Science Fair Rules and Regulations
▪ Number one rule... Think safety first!
▪ All experiments should be supervised by an adult.
▪ Respect all life forms; do not perform an experiment that will harm an animal.
▪ Any project that breaks district policy, and/or local, state or federal laws are not permitted
▪ Use safety on the internet! Never write to anyone without an adult knowing about it. Be sure to
let an adult know about what websites you will be visiting, or have them help you search.
▪ If there are dangerous aspects of your experiment, like using sharp tools or experimenting with
electricity, please have an adult help you or have them do the dangerous parts.
▪ No electricity will be available.
▪ No live animals, dangerous chemicals, open flames or explosives. Molds, fungi or potential
allergens must be displayed in sealed containers. Contact us or use photographs if in doubt!
▪ No food sampling allowed during presentations.
▪ No projects requiring NUTS to be present at the fair allowed.
▪
Projects may be as simple as researching a question on the Internet or more complex like a
demonstration model, an experiment, a working mechanism, or charts, diagrams or collections with a scientific objective.
▪ Tabletop projects must be no larger than 15 inches deep (front to back) by 32 inches wide
(side to side) and no higher than 3 feet above the top surface of the table. Floor displays must
be no larger than 30 inches deep (front to back) by 48 inches wide (side to side) and no higher
than 5 feet. Both table-top and floor displays must be freestanding and stable, because no
backing or rear display board of any kind will be provided. We recommend tri-fold boards
for tabletop projects.
