In Search of Machu Picchu
Grand Tour of Peru
I
n Peru, travel has always seemed like a quest, a discovery. Once
the centre of the world’s largest empire and ruled by the legendary
Inca, it became the Land of Eldorado as Spanish adventurers crossed
the high Andes chasing rumours of gold. In our age archaeologists
have followed the same routes in search of lost cities, half-buried
fortresses, and tombs of mummies.
This tour seeks to discover the very best of Peru. We visit the
extraordinary Nazca Lines only visible from the air, and travel south
to the beautiful colonial city of Arequipa and the astonishing natural
wonder of Colca Canyon. We visit Lake Titicaca, the legendary
origin of the Incas, before boarding our luxury train to Cuzco and
the haunting scenery and ruins of the Sacred Valley. The climax of
our journey is a breathtaking ascent of the Andes to the lost city of
Machu Picchu, one of the world’s greatest archaeological treasures.
