THANKS FOR READING
Pretend that you are walking in
China, and you bump into a black
and white fuzzy thing, you look
up and it's a panda. Even though
you might have the urge to hug it,
DON'T! Even though pandas are
soft and cuddly they are also very
fierce. Also pandas have a very
simple diet, bamboo! But, they
are becoming extinct so read this
book to find out more about
pandas.
Pandas Bodies🐼
When a panda is born they are the
size of a stick of butter. When pandas
are babies, for the first few years of
living there heads are not fully
hardend. At about 2 months old
pandas already have grown black
and white fur.Then, pandas usually
grow to be 5-6ft tall. Also, pandas
have a chubby body, with black legs,
and a broad band of black across the
shoulders. They have white faces
with black patches around the eyes
and black ears. Also they have short,
bushy tails that are white. Adult
pandas weigh about 200-300
pounds. Pandas have an extra thumb
for gripping bamboo.
A female giant panda gives birth
every two or three years, and to
one or two cubs. Also giant
pandas have some resemblance
to red pandas. A red panda has
red and white fur. The look like a
raccoon.
Pandas Food🐼
Pandas eat 85 Ibs. of bamboo a day. A
wild panda's diet is almost exclusively
99 percent bamboo. Pandas eat
various types of bamboo and little
meat. Although pandas can eat mean,
their diet is pretty much vegetarian. In
zoos pandas eat bamboo, sugar cane,
a special high fiber biscuit, carrots,
apples, and sweet potatoes. If
bamboo is not avalible, pandas prefer
to eat grass over meat. The 1%
balance consists of grasses and
occasional small rodents or musk
deer fawns. Unlike most plant eating
animals, pandas have inefficient
digestive systems that cannot easily
change plants into food energy.
Bamboo
Stalks!
Pandas in
danger🐼
Giant pandas population has been
shrinking, and today there is only about
1,600 pandas left in the wild. That's
because more people are taking over the
forest, and farmers climb higher in the
mountains to plant crops such as corn.
Many of the forests where pandas live
has been cleared to make room for
farms, so famers can grow more crops.
Now pandas have no where else to go
and no more food to eat. Even though
pandas can eat meat and grass, they
need to eat bamboo to even out their
diet. Humans are the main threat to
pandas losing their habitat. 150 pandas
at "The Wolong Panda Reserve" in 303
Provincial Rd, Wenchuan, Aba, Sichuan,
China can't be harmed.
Supportin
g the
pandas!🐼
Support the pandas, they need help! The
beautiful, healthy bamboo forests now
look bear and have very few perfect
bamboo stalks. Now pandas are left
without food. Their homes are being
taken away from them. People are one
of the biggest threats to pandas
population. Many of the forests where
pandas live has been cleared to plant
crops. Now people are taking action and
donating to panda preserves so that
pandas have a good place to live. Zoos
are now holding more pandas, and
feeding them the food they need.
