Leave of Absence Quick Facts *There is a two-year time limit to the LOA. *WHY?? Because students need to preserve their continuing student status. If they delay class registration for more than 7 semesters, students must fill out the re-admit application and pay the admission fee. *Example #1 Tommy Test, a UVU student, wants to work for his uncle at the family business where Tommy can get some practical experience in his major. He wants to leave in May 2016 and return in August 2016. Does Tommy need a LOA? No. Taking off one semester will not affect his student status. *EXAmple #2 Tommy Test decides to work longer with his uncle. He wants to take a break from fall 2016 semester and return summer 2017. Does Tommy need to fill out a LOA? Yes. He can fill out the LOA stating he is leaving fall 2016 semester and returning sometime before Summer 2018. The LOA preserves his student status so he can register for classes and not have to re-apply. The system looks at the last attended (enrolled) semester, counts forward SIX semesters and then adds ONE semester for registration. Tommy Test last attended spring 2016 semester. Summer 2016-1 Summer 2017-4 Fall 2016-2 Fall 2017-5 Spring 2017-3 Spring 2018-6 Summer 2018-Student must register to keep admission status Becky’s Ext… 8404 Please feel free to contact me any time.
