CHEW works in cooperation with PenMet
Parks to maintain and enhance the
Bujacich Off Leash Dog Park.
We need volunteers to organize and
participate in trail maintenance work parties,
oversee the bulletin board/kiosk, keep it
updated and keep people aware of events and
educational programs.

Don’ts
 Do Not allow dogs to defecate on school or
park fields where children play.
 Do Not Kick, throw, or dispose of waste in
nearby natural areas or forest.
 Do Not Flush dog waste into public or private
sanitation systems.
 Do Not Bury dog waste.
 Do Not Compost dog waste; it’s not fertilizer.
Critical Health Issues Related to Pet Waste:
 Pet waste is a health risk to people, especially
children.
 Pet waste is full of bacteria that can make
people sick. If it's washed into storm drains and
ends up in a lake, stream or Puget Sound, the
bacteria can end up in shellfish. People who eat
those shellfish or drink contaminated water can
get very sick.
 Pet waste contains Roundworms, E.coli, Giardia
and many other microorganisms that can be
transmitted to humans. Some of these
organisms can survive in the soil for years.
Children who play in the yard and adults who
garden are most at risk of infection.

Use a leash unless in a designated Off Leash Area
Importance of Following On-Leash Laws
Dogs are required to be on-leash when not in a designated off leash area. Reasons for on-leash laws are
numerous including:
1. It’s the law.
2. Most other handlers are following the rules and
you should, too.
3. Safety and respect of other people and their
pets. There are many reasons people don’t want
even friendly dogs approaching them or their
pets including allergies, fears, clothing, and more.
4. Knowing where your dog is defecating so you
can clean it up.
