The Lantern Theatre, Liverpool 1st – 10th December 2012
Following on from their biggest ever UK tour of The Games, Liverpool based Spike Theatre return home with their
Christmas production of Charles Dickens’ Christmas Carol.

“Times is ‘ard…Spare a copper for the poor” Scrooge, London’s most notorious miser is having none of it, a man so
mean he begrudges his only staff member Bob Cratchit a day off, even at Christmas.
On the eve before Christmas everything changes when he receives a visit from Jacob Marley, his very ex dead
business partner. Marley warns Scrooge that he should expect three visitations from three Christmas Spirits. As
Scrooge’s past, present and future comes to haunt him, will he change or merely cry Humbug?

The world of Victorian London is brought vividly to life in an atmospheric retelling of Charles Dickens’ most famous
novella, featuring a fusion of original music, puppetry, shadow play and Spike Theatre’s trademark bold storytelling,
expect laughs and plenty of scares! Christmas Carol will be performed by Mark Smith and directed by John
Garfield-Roberts. The production will also include original music by Liverpool based Paul Skinner

Mark Smith: Adaptor & Actor - is Artistic Director of Spike Theatre. His directing credits for Spike include Rudy and the
Reindeers, At the Races, The Fairy School, Jason and the Argonauts, This Side up, Backwater , The Adventures of Robin hood,
Alice in Wonderland, Gin & Tonic and Passing Trains, Top of the world and Danny the Champion of the World. Other directing
credits include Legless and Harmless (R.A.W) When I wake up I want to be famous (FUSE Theatre), Aesop’s Fables and Grimm
fairy Tales (LIPA). He will be directing for Spike later in the year 'Beasts and Beauties' a Christmas show in co-production with
The Brewery Arts Centre, Kendal.
