PRAYER FOR TODAY
O God, the strength of all those
who put their trust in you,
mercifully accept our prayers
and, because through the weakness
of our mortal nature
we can do no good thing without you,
grant us the help of your grace,
that in the keeping of your commandments
we may please you both in will and deed;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
NEWS
JEAN HEYES
We are sad to hear that Jean Heyes, formerly of
Birch Close, died peacefully on Tuesday evening
(13th June) at the Sunrise Care Home in
Peasmarsh, Guildford, following what appeared to
be a stroke. Among many other things, Jean is
remembered with fondness as a churchwarden, a
founding member of the St Mary’s Coffee Shop
team, and a St Bede’s School governor. We pray
for Jean’s family and friends. Funeral
arrangements will be announced in due course.

FLOWER FESTIVAL
Thank you to everyone who supported last week’s
Flower Festival. Congratulations to Jean Turner,
Sally Harrison and Linda Mumford for organising
such a splendid weekend. They couldn’t have
done it without the support and imagination of the
flower arrangers, and we are very grateful to them
for their beautiful creations. And, of course, thank
you to everyone who came to steward or help with
the refreshments, and for all the delicious cakes –
not forgetting the furniture movers and shakers.
Altogether a marvellous team effort!
COFFEE SHOP
The Coffee Shop is open again
tomorrow Monday 19th June when
the stall will be a Blue & Orange
Tombola and the proceeds will go
to the York Road Project in Woking.
MOTHERS UNION
You should have seen details about two
forthcoming Diocesan events - a Summer Party
on 9th August and two Days of Refreshment on
19th June and 10th November. If not, details are
on the notice board in church. Sally intends to go
to the Summer Party (which is for members,
friends and families) in August and is already
booked on the Day of Refreshment on the 19th
June (Sally really appreciated the last one she
attended). She can offer one person a lift with her
on each day.
PS A reminder to MU members that this year’s
garden party will be held next Saturday 24th June
between 2pm and 4pm. Please let Beth know
whether you are able to come or not – 222193 or
email to [email protected]
ALL TOGETHER SERVICE
Next Sunday 25th June
we will be holding our
TOGETHER service in the
church rooms – a service
of Holy Communion for
all. This will be instead of
the usual 10.30am service
in church.
BIBLE STUDY at 9 Orchard Way
The next Bible Study session will be on Monday
26th June. If you would like to join this group, and
for further details, please contact Sally Harrison
223725.
CRAFT AND CHAT
Why not drop in and join us for a session. Bring
your craft with you, knitting, embroidery, card
making – anything really – and sit and chat with
other crafters. No charge, except 50p for a cup of
tea/coffee and a biscuit. The next meeting is on
Wednesday 28th June in the Church Room, any
time between 2pm and 4pm. There is a play area
for toddlers.
QUIZ NIGHT
Reminder............. Quiz night is coming up on
Friday 14th July at 7.30pm, giving you time to
gather a team together. (If you’re on your own we
will put you with a team on the night – so don’t be
shy!) Tickets £8.50 including a ploughman’s
supper and juice/tea/coffee. Please bring your
own drinks and glasses. Tickets from Sylvia and
Ann soon.
CHRISTIAN AID
Wow! Amazing! Fantastic! etc. etc. Between us
we raised £830 – the best for several years, thank
you soooo much. A huge thank you to the lovely
people who collected door to door and helped
enormously in reaching this total. In the ‘old days’
we used to collect over £2,000 but that was when I
had collectors in almost every road in Send. If you
think you could help next year, so that we could
get even more, please let me know. Thank you
again, Lorna
DRAWING HELP REQUIRED
We are looking for someone to draw up a Site
Plan and Block Plan for the Church Room, in
preparation for submission of a planning
application for a new Notice Board to be erected
outside.
Does anybody have the necessary
skills/equipment to help with this, please? If you
might be able to help, please contact Christine
Acock for more information – 01483 223209 or
email [email protected]
Many thanks.
Moses............................
Father: What did you learn in Sunday school this
morning?
Son:
We learned about how Moses went
behind enemy lines to rescue the Jews
from the Egyptians. Moses ordered the
engineers to build a pontoon bridge. After
the people crossed, he sent bombers
back to blow up the bridge and the
Egyptian tanks that were following them.
And then..........................
Father: Did your teacher really tell it like that?
Son:
No, but if I told you what he said, you
would never believe it.
