Short Courses
3 Introduction to Welding
Weekend and
short courses
This dynamic workshop will introduce various welding
techniques including the preparation and finishing of
steel and the techniques for bending and forming steel.
Take the steps to make good design decisions and
consider poetry and music to inform the aesthetic in
your sculpture.
WITH
INGRID MORLEY
Work with an entry-level welding method (manual arc
welding) or stick welding. Consider the engineering
requirements of your work, weights and balances, space
and structure as you weld your steel elements together
and create small-scale 3D sculptures.

ABOUT THE TEACHER
Ingrid Morley is a practicing sculptor and has worked
from her Sydney Studio for the past 20 years – recently
relocating to the Central Tablelands of NSW. Her broad
teaching experience over the past 15 years as Director of
her successful Ingrid Morley Sculpture School in Sydney
includes 11 years teaching studio based Sculpture under
the umbrella of The Centre for Continuing Education at
Sydney University.
In her work, Ingrid seeks to match her growing repertoire
of forms and ideas for sculpture with the most telling
and memorable of means. Much of Ingrid’s current work
employs unused and abandoned industrial equipment and
related materials, collaborating with the mysteries they
have left behind and retelling their stories in a thought
provoking contemporary language.
Ingrid is an exhibiting sculptor both nationally and
internationally and this background, together with her
teaching experience forms the basis of all course content.
All courses are run in a suppor tive, encouraging and
friendly environment,

SHORT Courses
1 Sculpture in Clay – Bas Relief (low relief)
A bas-relief could be described as a combination
of painting and sculpture as
the third dimension is suggested. Sharpen your skills
of observation, learn how
to use space and work creatively with light in the manner of the early Masters.
Working in clay you can
choose to make a mould
and cast your work in
plaster (indoor) or reconstituted stone (outdoor*) and
take your small scale work
home.

Student work
Work with your own ideas or
use examples from the old
masters as a starting point. (A choice of resource material is
supplied). If you have no experience of sculpture or working
with clay this is a good place to begin!
*Requires extra time plus costs.
(Mould making and casting your work in plaster is included
in the course cost.)
2 Life Class Intensive
Experience the most complex of abstract shapes and design
in nature whilst learning how the body works. Working with a
life model, this short course offers an in-depth study of the
human form. Observe the gestural activity of the body as a
whole and consider the proportions and arrangement of the
body’s large structures in space.
Gain technical knowledge in the making of classical
sculpture with armature construction (internal
framework) and progress to modelling in clay.
Studying the figure from life provides a personal
library of creative possibilities to be used
figuratively or to open the visual
artist up to more abstract design
possibilities.
