~Superintendent’s Greeting~
T
he Hazlehurst City School District welcomes you all back for the 2016‐2017 school year. We are excited to have each of you on the team. We understand the importance of the role that each of you play in the lives of students and I know that this community appreciates your dedication and hard work. We all have specific roles and responsibilities and the expectation is that we will carry out those responsibilities with self‐examination, exactness and commitment. This district has gone through many changes in faculty and staff to put together a team that will support the goals, vision, and mission of the district. I know that this team will also succeed with ensuring that our students meet the state’s challenging academic standards. Preparing students for college and careers are our number one priority. I believe that the Hazlehurst City School District has the right group of motivated professional educators to ensure that students reach their full academic potential. I encourage each you to do the very best for the students and families we serve. It is a new day; we have a new school year with another opportunity to make greater academic strides then in previous years. I want to thank each of you for accepting the call to serve as leaders, role models, life changers, and a beacon of hope to our students. District Office Staff

High School~
H
ello Indian Nation,
I am very excited and humble to be your high school principal for the 2016-2017
School Year. Hazlehurst High School has a great history of academic achievement, as well as,
athletics which brings the entire community together for the betterment of all stakeholders. I
come to Hazlehurst High School with a total of 18 years of educational experience and 15 of
those years with educational administrative experience. In my previous, two high school
positions as principal, the students, staff and the community worked extremely hard to improve
our academic standing from a failing school to a successful school. With this track record of
success, I look forward to improving HHS from a successful school to a high performing school.
I am anticipating a very successful school year that will foster collaboration among our students,
staff, and parents. My doors will always be open to you for dialogue on how we can make HHS ---“A Great Place To Be.” I can be reached at any time by phone @ 601-894-2489 or by email @
[email protected].
Sincerely,

~Hazlehurst Middle School~
D ear Parents,
As Principal of Hazlehurst Middle School (HMS), it is my pleasure to welcome everyone back for another great year. We
are all excited to have students back in our classrooms and hallways filling them with energy and enthusiasm for learning.
It is our mission to help every child feel welcomed, connected, and a part of our HMS family. Additionally, we strive to
challenge each student to grow in his or her academic abilities and to be college and career ready. At HMS, we have great
teachers who spend hours planning and creating classroom activities to engage our students in learning. Our teachers utilize
research-based best practices and analyze academic data to determine current skill levels and to set goals for growth and
improvement. We believe all students should graduate and prepared for the demands of postsecondary education,
meaningful careers and effective citizenship.
We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We
recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a
strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility
for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that
you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college, to the military, and/or the workforce.
I am honored to serve as the principal of Hazlehurst Middle School. It is truly a privilege to be a part of a community
where parents, teachers and students care for each other and strive to build positive relationships that support academic and
social growth. We thank you for your support and look forward to meeting you. Please feel free to contact me at 601-8943463 or at [email protected].
Once again, welcome back! Let’s make it a great year at Hazlehurst Middle School together!
Sincerely,
Kristi Harris, School Principal
