ENMITY BETWEEN THE SEEDS
Seed of the Woman (Part 1)
H.
SEED OF THE WOMAN
“So the LORD God said to the serpent; ‘Because you have done this, you are cursed more
than all cattle, and more than every beast of the field. On your belly you shall go, and you
shall eat dust all the days of your life. And I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise you head, and you shall bruise His
heel.’ ” – Genesis 3:;14-15 (NKJV)
1. Within this prophecy is the hope of redemption and the promise evil will be overcome.
2. God placed enmity – hatred – between the woman and serpent and their respective seeds.
3. Though His heel would be bruised, the seed of woman (Messiah) would crush serpent.
4. By crushing His head, He destroys his “body.”
5. To validate this, Daniel sees a vision that predicts when all the wicked kingdoms are gone.
“And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never
be destroyed and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and
consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever. Inasmuch as you saw that the
stone was cut out of the mountain without hands, and that it broke in pieces the iron, the
bronze, the clay, the silver, and the gold…” – Daniel 2:44-45 (NKJV)
6. According to 1 John 3, this is why the Messiah came into the world:
“To destroy the works of the devil.” – 1 John 3:8 (NKJV)
7. For the Seed prophecy to come to pass, the woman had to give birth to “righteous seed.”
8. No doubt this is what prompted the Adversary to target Cain, the firstborn.
9. It is doubtful that the serpent would slither off and just concede.
10. I believe he devised a plan to try and reverse the decision rendered against him.
11. He planned to crush the head of the righteous seed before his being crushed.
a. Maybe this is why Cain struck Abel in the head – to crush it.
12. So as Eve prepares to give birth, the Adversary is paying attention.
13. Her seed represented the one that was to destroy him.
14. However, Eve bore twins – notice the text says:
“Then she bore again, this time his brother Abel. Now Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain
was a tiller of the ground.” – Genesis 4:2 (NKJV)
15. The text says she “conceived” once and “bore” twice suggesting these two were twins.
16. So while the Adversary targeted the “firstborn” God targeted His “firstborn.”
17. Also notice that Abel was a shepherd and Cain was a farmer working in the field.
1
a. This is an important issue.
VIII HAND ON THE HEEL
A.
IN THE END OF DAYS
1. In Cain and Abel, we see the enmity God placed between the two seeds.
2. We also see in these brothers, that these two seeds can grow in the same house (field).
3. That these principles are revealed in the very beginning is very important for us in the end.
“And in the process of time it came to pass that Cain brought an offering of the fruit of the
ground to the LORD.” – Genesis 4:3 (NKJV)
4. We have taught before that Scripture is to be understood on four basic levels, one of them
being those things that are “hidden” within the text.
5. “In the process of time” is m’ketz yamim, literally “in the end of days.”
6. In the beginning, God hints at things that reveal the end of days through Cain and Abel.
7. Remember, God declares the end from the beginning.
REFERENCE: Isaiah 46:10
8. Some commentators suggest that this phrase is to hint at the growing season.
9. That would be late summer, early fall which coincides with the biblical fall feasts.
10. These feasts are prophetic and speak of the end of days.
11. Point is that, either way, Cain and Abel speak of the end of days.
12. So if what happened in the beginning speaks of the end, what should we learn?

The serpent’s seed rising up against those who trust in the blood of the lamb.

The righteous and wicked seed may come from the same house.

They compete for the same land, the same field.

The serpent continuing to target those things he believes belong to God.

Because Cain struck Abel’s head, the wicked will strike the head of the righteous.
13. If this principle is true, it will be viewed in Scripture multiple times.
B.
TWO SEEDS OF ABRAHAM?
“Now the LORD had said to Abram, ‘Get out of your country, from your family and from your
father’s house to a land that I will show you. I will make you a great nation; I will bless you
and make your name great, and you shall be a blessing.’ ” – Genesis 12:1-2 (NKJV)
“In your seed all the nations of the earth shall be blessed, because you have obeyed my
voice.” – Genesis 22:18 (NKJV)
1. Considering the enemy wants to destroy the righteous seed, as soon as the promise is made to
Abraham, the Adversary must targeted Abraham and his seed.
2. Through Abraham all the nations of the earth would be blessed.
2
3. The Adversary wants to defile and corrupt all nations.
4. We understand that Sarah gave Hagar the handmaid to Abraham to have a son – Ishmael.
5. Of course, later Sarah gave birth to a son and he was called Isaac.
6. When Isaac was weaned, Ishmael displayed a disdain for him and the enmity was evident.
“And Sarah saw the son of Hagar the Egyptian, whom she had borne to Abraham, scoffing.
Therefore she said to Abraham, ’Cast out this bondwoman and her son, for the son of this
bondwoman shall not be heir with my son.’ ” – Genesis 21:9-10 (NKJV)
7. We can’t be sure just why Sarah wanted Abraham to have a son by Hagar but we conclude:

It created problems in Abraham’s household – enmity between the seeds.

This action had long lasting ramifications – even to our day.
8. Though God did promise to bless Ishmael, the covenant was to be with Isaac.
“For in Isaac your seed shall be called.” – Genesis 21:12 (NKJV)
9. Though Isaac was the “second born” he was the son of promise – the righteous seed.
REFERENCE: Galatians 4:23

ENMITY BETWEEN THE SEEDS
Seed of the Woman (Part 2)
C.
TWO SEEDS OF ISAAC?
“Now Isaac pleaded with the LORD for his wife, because she was barren; and the LORD
granted his plea, and Rebekah his wife conceived. But the children struggled together
within her and she said, ‘If all is well, why am I like this?’ So she went to inquire of the
LORD, and the LORD said unto her, ‘Two nations are in your womb, two peoples shall be
separated from your body; one people shall be stronger than the other, and the older shall
serve the younger.’ So when her days were fulfilled for her to give birth, indeed there were
twins in her womb. And the first came out red. He was like a hairy garment all over, so they
called his name Esau. Afterward his brother came out, and his hand took hold of Esau’s
heel, so his name was called Jacob. . . . So the boys grew and Esau was a skillful hunter, a
man of the field; but Jacob was a mild man, dwelling in tents.” – Genesis 25:21-27 (NKJV)
1. Rebekah goes from barren to pregnant, but rather than overjoyed she is troubled.
2. She inquires of the LORD who tells her that twins are within her but will not coexist..
3. That the children are struggling within her hints at the enmity that will be between them.
4. Reasonable to conclude that, based on what happens later, they are struggling to be born first.
5. They are fighting over who will get the birthright and blessing.
6. Furthermore, God tells Rebekah that the older will serve the younger which will create enmity.
7. This also infers that, from God’s point of view, the younger should be the firstborn.
a. Remember Cain and Abel, Ishmael and Isaac - not man’s firstborn but God’s.
8. This would explain why Rebekah is so adamant about helping Jacob get Isaac’s blessing for
the firstborn.
9. Also notice that Esau is a man of the field and Jacob dwells in tents.
a. Jacob is a shepherd.
10. This should sound familiar: Cain and Abel.
11. Like Cain and Abel, Esau and Jacob were conceived in same womb and have same father.
a. But they are two different children at enmity with one another.
12. They are two different seeds.
D.
MEANING OF JACOB
1. Scriptures says that as Esau was emerging from the womb, Jacob’s hand was on his heel.
2. Because of this and that they were struggling in womb, Jacob (Ya’akov) is said to mean,
“supplanter.”
3. Seems to be substantiated by the fact the Jacob deceives his father to obtain blessing.
4. But Rebekah put him up to it and Esau sold him his birthright for a bowl of stew.
5. I don’t believe that Jacob should be rendered as “supplanter.”
6. God is the one who acknowledged that Jacob was to be the greater one.
4
a. He was the one through whom the covenant would be propagated.
7. If it doesn’t mean “supplanter” then what does it mean?
8. Looking at the Hebrew, I believe we can get our answer.
9. Scripture says that Jacob had his hand on Esau’s heel – the Hebrew is  akev.
10. The Hebrew word for hand is  yad and is represented by the letter  yod.
11. By adding the letter  yod to the word for heel () the result is  Ya’akov.
12. Rather than supplanter, Ya’kov means “hand on heel.”
a. Much like the meaning of Isaac or Yitzhak – to laugh.
13. The real issue is, why was he called “hand on heel”?
14. Rather than trying to supplant Esau, I believe it is was to protect Jacob’s head from being
crushed by Esau’s heel.
15. Remember, they were struggling in the womb.
16. It is more evidence that the serpent and his seed have been trying to reverse the decision of
Gen. 3:15.
17. It is clear that Esau and Jacob were at odds – there was enmity between brothers.
18. It is accentuated in later generations as Esau’s seed exhibits hostility toward Jacob’s seed.
E.
ESAU REJECTED
“I have loved you says the LORD. Yet you say, ‘In what way have you loved us?’ Was not
Esau Jacob’s brother? says the LORD. Yet Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated and
laid waste his mountains and his heritage for the jackals of the wilderness.”
– Malachi 1:2-3 (NKJV)
1. Why? We know that Esau was a profane man.
REFERENCE: Hebrews 12:16
2. He took a wife from among the Canaanites causing his parents grief.
REFERENCE: Genesis 26:34-35
3. Main problem seems to be that Esau had no regard for anything holy.
4. He had no regard for the birthright but sold it for food so he is not the one who should lead the
family that is destined to be a blessing to all the nations.
5. As a consequence, Esau’s seed is to be spoiled (Jer. 49:10) and cut off forever (Oba. 1:10)
6. It is also important to remember that Esau is the first to make the accusation that Jacob means
“supplanter.”
“And Esau said, ‘Is he not rightly named Jacob? For he has supplanted me these two times.
He took away my birthright and now look, he has taken away my blessing.’”
– Genesis 27:36 (NKJV)
7. First of all we understand that Jacob did not take away his birthright but Esau sold it because
he saw no value in it.
5
“And Esau said, ‘Look. I am about to die so what is this birthright to me?’ ”
– Genesis 25:32 (NKJV)
8. Yet when he loses the blessing, he accuses his brother of being a trickster and deceiver.
9. He accuses his brother!
10. We understand that the Adversary is the accuser of the brethren.
REFERENCE: Revelation 12:10
10. It makes sense that if Satan is the accuser, then his seed would emulate that characteristic.
11. Furthermore, if the Adversary desires to destroy the righteous seed, then his seed would as
well.
12. Thus we see that:
“So Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father blessed him; and Esau
said in his heart, ‘the days of mourning for my father are at hand; then I will kill my brother
Jacob.’ ” – Genesis 27:41 (NKJV)
13. Again we see, that two sons born of same womb who call the same man father are two
different seeds altogether.
14. They are at enmity with each other and it is because of what is in their heart.

PROGRAM 83
ENMITY BETWEEN THE SEEDS
Seed of the Woman (Part 3)
VIII HAND ON THE HEEL (Cont.)
F.
THE SERPENT’S WAR ON JACOB
1. Esau’s descendants (Edomites aka Idumeans) lived along the eastern border of the Aravah
from Dead Sea to Eilat.
2. Constant state of war between the Edomites and the Israelites.
3. There was a time period when Edom was conquered by the Hasmoneans and were forced to
merge (mingle) with the Jews.
4. Two centuries later, the most prominent of these assimilated Edomites ascended to the throne
in Judea with the help of the Romans – he was Herod the Great.
5. I do not believe it coincidence that a descendant of Esau was the one trying to destroy the
King of Israel – the seed of the woman – as soon as he was born.
6. This is of particular interest because the collaboration between Edom and Rome may come
into play in the future, i.e. the future Anti-Messiah.
7. Consider that the Adversary, through multiple sources, tried to destroy the seed of the woman.

Cain

Ishmael

Esau

Esau’s descendants

Anti-Messiah
8. All of this demonstrates his intense hatred for the righteous seed called Israel.
9. It is Israel that God said:
“Shall be a special treasure unto me above all people for all the earth is mine. And you
shall be to me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation.” – Exodus 19:5-6 (NKJV)
“Israel is my son, even my firstborn” – Exodus 4:22 (NKJV)
10. In other words, Israel is marked as God’s seed born of a woman.
11. Israel has also been marked by the Adversary for destruction.
12. Why is it that Israel has suffered so much at the hand of oppressors?
13. At least in part because the Adversary hates Israel and wants to destroy her.
14. The adversary wants to destroy Israel before his head is struck.
15. This is why Esau tried to destroy Jacob and why his descendants STILL try to destroy Israel.
G.
ESAU IN TODAY’S WORLD
1. I am convinced that the struggle that began in Rebekah’s womb continues to this day.
7
2. The prophets Ezekiel and Obadiah strongly suggest that the Palestinians are descendants of the
Esau.
3. It is the descendants of Esau that God says have taken the mountains of Israel as a possession.
REFERENCE: Ezekiel 36:1-5
4. For this reason and because of their hatred of Jacob, God speaks against them.
5. According to Obadiah, God will destroy Edom because of the violence they have committed
against their brother Jacob.
REFERENCE: Obadiah 1:10, 18
6. Interestingly, the mountainous region of Israel is what the world calls the “West Bank”
occupied by people the Bible calls “all of Edom.”
REFERENCE; Ezekiel 36:5
7. It is also interesting that the word translated as “violence” in Obadiah’s prophecy is hamas.
8. In Arabic this word means “zeal” and as far as the terror group goes its an acrostic.
9. Still there is no doubt that God knows all and gave us a very strong hint of the future.
10. If Esau had been successful in crushing Jacob’s head, there would have been no Israel.
11. Today there are those who wish to decapitate Jacob and many of them are descended from
Esau.
12. Until he is finally destroyed, Esau will continually try to destroy Israel.
13. That is why Esau must be completely destroyed.
“The house of Jacob shall be a fire and the house of Joseph a flame. But the house of Esau
shall be stubble. They shall kindle them and devour them, and no survivor shall remain of
the house of Esau, for the LORD has spoken.” – Obadiah 1:18 (NKJV)
H.
ISRAEL WILL PREVAIL
“Then Jacob was left alone; and a man wrestled with him until the breaking of day. Now
when he saw that he did not prevail against him, he touched the socket of his hip and the
socket of Jacob’s hip was out of joint as he wrestled with him. And he said, ‘Let me go for
the day breaks.’ But he said, ‘I will not let you go unless you bless me.’ So he said to him,
‘What is your name?’ He said, ‘Jacob.’ And he said, ‘Your name shall no longer be called
Jacob, but Israel; for you have struggled with God and with men and have prevailed.’ ”
– Genesis 32:24-28 (NJKV)
1. This encounter takes place as Jacob is preparing to meet his adversary.
2. The last time Jacob heard from Esau, it was that he was going to kill him.
4. Should point out that Esau is coming to meet his brother with 400 men.
REFERENCE: Genesis 32:6
5. If Esau were coming with entirely pure motives, why does he bring 400 men with him?
6. Surely this is why the encounter takes place – to encourage Jacob.
7. The word “struggled” suggests “perseverance.”
8
8. Because of this perseverance, he will “prevail” or “overcome.”
9. The Septuagint and the Latin Vulgate render this:
“Because you have power with God, you shall also prevail with men.”
10. In other words, Jacob was no longer going to be the one called “hand on heel.”
11. No longer would he be the one who had to worry about the heel of his adversary being poised
to strike him on his head.
12. As a matter of fact, not only would he not put his heel on your head, but your heel would be
on his head.
13. Thus Jacob was born again as Israel – the seed of the woman.
14. He never walked the same way again.
15. It was God who gave him that distinctive walk.
16. Scripture tells us that:
“The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD.” – Psalm 37:23 (NKJV)
17. Which is to say, God has ordained the way a good man (righteous) should walk.
18. Israel is to walk a certain way and when they do, they have the power to overcome their
enemies.
19. As Israel, God’s people are destined to put their heel on the head of the Adversary because
Messiah has overcome.
9
